Zoom F6 update - Has anyone got their hands on a F3?

Georgina Joyce

Hello All,

I seem to have lost touch with Zoom F6 and blind users. I see there is a recent firmware update which I am about to install. I see another 32 bit floating point recorder is available. Has anyone evaluated the F3?

I have also lost my details of the creative email list that I think Jonathon Mosen set up. Could someone remind me of its name and its membership settings page? I think I just set it to no mail. I can't believe how hard it is now to find a list of blind related email lists now-a-days.

Many thanks,

Georgina

Hi Georgina. On the RWP list a man named Arron has talked a bit about the F3. Don't know if you're still on there. You were the 1 that told me about that list after all. Was there something in particular you wanted to know? Either you could ask Arron supposing you are still on the RWP list or I could perhaps. As I too am curious. Due to the fact that it is a touch screen.

Hello Hamit,

No I am not subscribed or I just suspended incoming email from it. I'll always remember reaper without peepers. Well, hopefully I'll remember it, I am getting old. No the creative list is mainly discussion for podcasters.

I see it is just a cut down of the F6 and has an app called F3 control. I don't know about the F6 app but an Android version is coming soon if not already released.

I hope you are well. Did you build your 2 Rode NT1A project?

Na not yet. Ah you remember that. Yeah I do want a matched pair of those. With the stereo bar of course. Have you oh wait I think you do have the NT1. Which is newer. IF not have you heard it? Some like it better. Cause it gets rid of some of the crispness of the NT1-A which by the way is from the 90s. Yes the F3 is a 2 XLR recorder and yes you're right it does like the F6 have an app. I don't know about the F3 1 but I have heard Garry Odonihew use it and it is kinda meh. You can start and stop recording you can sorta mess with the inputs linking or unlinking I guess. You yes can turn on or off Phantum which is good because that's 1 of the things with the H6. I have to wait for someone to read the screen. Yes you can call up someone on Aira or Be My Eyes but they always had a hard time seeing the screen over the camera. So you have an F6 now too? Though I think you did get it during the F6 craze. Lol. The curious thing was that it wasn't Neal Ewers whom started it first this time. I think it was either Garry or Jonathan Mosen. Hmmmm maybe Jonathan bought 1 first then Garry was the first to demo it though.

Hello Hamit,

I think Garry got it first then recorded a demo for Jonathon. Mosen at large episode 35. For a few episodes after that Jonathon was all excited about it.

I thought that the booth junky said that the NT1A replaced the NT1. It doesn't matter because you may recall, I am not a fan.

Just listened to a youtube demo of the F3 by Curtis Judd. He uses my favourite mic MKH-416. I haven't been able to afford one yet. But I have a copy which the booth junky states he couldn't tell the difference between the 2 mics. They had done a good job of creating the sound profile.

Ah yes the booth Junky is indeed correct. The NT1-a did replace an NT1. Hence the a for anniversary. Then when the new 1 was made I forget when they took the A away again and that's the current NT1.

Hello,

If you mean the firmware update it is easy to find. Here's the link.

https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/field-recorders/field-recorders/f6/f6-support/

You may get a dialog asking about language. Just find the close button. As you can see from the URL above it is set to English US.

Basically:
Unzip the file.
Copy bin file to SD.
Press play and turn the F6 on.
Press the top right button to upgrade.
Press enter.
Wait for about 5 minutes and power off.

I didn't time how long the update took but I am sure it was less than 5 minutes.

Thanks,
