Looking for Audio Editor Simpler Than GoldWave

Evan Reese

Hey Guys,
Can anyone recommend an audio editor that’s simpler than GoldWave? I got the free version here, and I just can’t figure out much of it.
I got a list of keyboard commands, but when I try them, they don’t do what the list says they’re supposed to do. Apparently, I have to be in the Green Play Area, or is it the Yellow Play Area, or whatever. It’s just too complicated.
Pretty much all I want to do is change volume, and select a portion of a file and be able to delete it. I may find another function or two I might want, but really, this is too much. Besides, the free version limits you to 200 commands, which it seems I can use up pretty fast arrowing around in a file trying to find the place I want to edit out.
Oh, and I suppose it should go without saying that it should be accessible with JAWS or Window Eyes.
Thanks much for any advice.
Evan

GoldWave is worth the financial investment.

As an experienced user, I don't find it difficult.

Write me off-list if a chat via Skype, Zoom, or phone would be helpful. I use GoldWave to edit audio for clients.

Evan: You may want to give MP3 Direct Cut a try! It's accessible and is free (unless they've updated it and changed things) MP3 Direct Cut is capable of deleting parts of files and can change volume, although that "volume thing" I've forgotten exactly how you do this!

Greetings,

I agree with Chris, I've used GW for eleven years and find it very easy.

I am still on V5.70 which I used both in W7 and WXP Home (yes, no updates
though make sure naught gets in) and I find GW easy.

Again, I am willing to help but I am in the UK, maybe let us know which
version and your operating system sure this can help a good deal.

Thanks Dean and Tom,
I'll check out MP3 Direct Cut. For all I need, 50 dollars, (which is what I think GoldWave costs), is not worth it.

MP3DC is not designed to be a full-function audio editor. It's primary purpose is to enable the user to clip out portions of an MP3 file and save either the clipped-out bit or the bit from which the clip was removed. Its interface is klugey at best. You'd be much better off with GW if you want to do anything fancier than simply clipping out portions of MP3's. I know it's a little tedious to learn, but once you do, you'll rule your audio editing world.

Steve, fully agreed, but as for tedius, I disagree, I found it easy even

I have Studio Recorder and it is a beautiful audio editor. Yes, it
took me a fair bit to learn but it was worth the investment as I now
create broadcast quality recordings.

Despite having Studio Recorder, I have used MP3 direct Cut very
recently to edit songs into ringtones. MP3 Direct Cut is
non-destructive to an MP3 file and its interface was simple enough. I
was able to do fade ins and fade outs so the audio does not sound
choppy. for example, I did a two second fade out of manered Ferguson
blowing his trumpet in MacArthur Park. Similarly, I did about a one
second fade in of the accelerating drum roll before the electric
guitar introduction of Joe cocker's version of With A Little Help From
My Friends. Mp3 Direct Cut is intended to work only with MP3 files
though and not M4A or wav files.

Thanks Steve, I was using Foobar, (if that's how it's spelled), to merge files, then I discovered that GoldWave would do it and more easily than I was able to do it with Foobar.
I don't think I'll bother getting another program just to merge files if I can do it easily with GoldWave without having to buy it.

Foobar does merging? That's a new one on me.

MP3Mate's strong suit is that when merging files, it does not re-encode them.

If you're looking for a merge-split program, MP3Mate is a good choice.

Thanks Steve,
That's pretty much it, although I guess I should have added that I also need to merge files once per month. I don't really need anything else to do that though because I do use GoldWave for that and it's very easy.

If that's so, then yes, MP3DC is a perfect fit. I guess I got stuck on
the word "editor".

I respectfully must disagree; MP3 direct Cut is a good program! Certainly
it may be that Goldwave can do more things, but if I understood the original

Steve, fully agreed, but as for tedius, I disagree, I found it easy even
though it does not fully follow all the windows conventions, then again,
neither do any of the other audio-processing  programs at which I have
looked. For instance Winamp, even those produced by MicroSoft such as Media
Player, don't fully follow the windows conventions.
