I used the internal microphones of the recorder covered with a Gutman Windscreen.
My only small complaint with the S-14 is the small amount of hiss you get in your recordings so the LS-P4 is the better recorder in that regard.

I used the Olympus LS-14 this time.
I have made previous recordings of them with the LS-P4 which also came out very well.
This morning was a little unusual here in that things were a lot quieter than they usually are around here given that we have a Labour Day Public Holiday today though you wouldn’t know it now.
Its the afternoon as I type and traffic is back to its usual noisy self, perhaps a little more noisy than it normally would be.

Amazon Echo Show Second Generation

Dane Trethowan <grtdane@...>

Hi,
I ordered one of these devices, the plan is to set the Echo Show in the centre of my kitchen table for the benefit of guests - who may be able to see the screen for time and weather etc - as well as myself.
I found a page regarding accessibility for the Amazon Echo Show Second Generation at https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=202158200 which is an interesting read, I didn’t know that the Echo Show Second Generation had amazon’s VoiceView Screen Reader as part of the bundle for example.
So this brings up the 40 million dollar question doesn’t it.
Just how much of Android will VoiceView allow me to access through the Echo Show and what sort of Apps will I be able to install and how accessible will they be? I guess only time will tell.
I should have my Amazon Echo Show Second Generation later this week.
Perhaps other list members have experience in using one of these devices.

I have the Blue Snowball mic. However, mine does not have any buttons on
it. But I have heard of some people who have this particular brand of mic
that does hhave that button; my guess is that it's a 3-position switch,
going from lo to medium to high; that's just a guess, so am sorry if this
isn't enough information!

3. The switch has three settings:

"1" records what is directly aimed at the mic, and reduces ambient noise.
This setting is good for recording in the lab, which has some building
noise.

"2" also records directional sound, but contains more ambient noise.

"3" records omnidirectional noise, it will contain much of the sound
surrounding the mic. This setting is good for recording several speakers in
a conversation.

And I am sure that you'd be similar to myself of not being sure of where
position 1 would be positioned. I would guess to the left if you're facing
it. Simply try it for yourself and record yourself because you will be able
to hear the differences from each pickup/position.

Re: Sound Cloud

Dane Trethowan <grtdane@...>

I’m eying Soundcloud myself but I probably won’t bother with it as I already have a Dropbox plan that gives me 2TB of space and with the “Smartsync” functionality I can choose what to have available locally.
This means that - if I should choose to make content only available online - I see the files in the file list but they’re not actually stored on the device I’m accessing at the time.
So what are your plans for your historical data? It might be cheaper to set up a small server rather than use the cloud if you’re planning to share your clips etc with the public.

Hi,

I'm considering an account with Sound Cloud given the increasing amount of
clips and samples that I'm capturing using various pieces of recording
equipment.

Up till now I've been using Dropbox though as the amount of clips increase
so does the struggle to keep things organised.

Has anyone used Sound Cloud before? Sound cloud seems to be the obvious
solution to my problem though there may be other solutions out there.

Yes Tom, you're doing it the way I would. With the control on the transmitter all the way up, set your sound card output just a bit less than distortion. That's probably all you can do. I don't know if there is an adjustment in the transmitter for deviation. If so, that might be the next thing to try.

But if I'm in the bathroom and am using that clock radio to listen to while I'm in the shower, sometimes it's harder to hear it (and the volume control on the clock radio is as loud as it can go!

An interesting choice but perhaps a rather costly one.
You're going to have to buy 2 of these speakers if you want stereo sound and
that's probably fair enough from B&O's point of view as you'll get good
separation.
I'm still using my B&W T7 which I bought nearly 2 years ago.
I'm looking at the B&O review now.
The author complains that the B&O Bluetooth speker isn't watertight? Well I
don't give a damn about such things, I'm only interested in the audio
quality and not marketing gimmiks.
The B&O supports APTX which is great but not so important if you're planning
to use the device with a piece of Apple hardware and I truly wish this would
change.
The author of the review I'm reading makes a point of mentioning the looks
of the B&O speaker? Again that's something that doesn't worry me so long as
I get good sound and preferably good enough sound that makes my speaker
stand out from the pack which this speaker does it seems.
Before you rush out to buy one I do suggest that you look at some other
speakers such as the B&W T7 or the Keef Muo I think its called.
The B&W T7 is a stereo Bluetooth speaker with surprisingly good separation
and sound given the size of the device and as you already have a B&W system
you will pretty much have some idea of what the T7 sounds like.
The Muo has to be paired to get stereo sound.
Anyway just my thoughts.
