I can’t have one of those Mac Pro machines either but boy! Do I wish I could <smile>.
In the meantime I’m perfectly happy with my 4 Mac mini machines, 2 iMac machines and my MacBook Pro.
1 Mac mini machine runs the Plex Media Server here, another manages the Twonky Media server and is used to record from the Cable box, another manages Radio Archives and the forth is a server machine.
All these Mac mini machines are late 2012 models and still going strong.

The highlight for me was the announcement that iTunes is to be split into 3 different Apps and not before time too I hear you all say.
Apple Music App will handle all your music. Apple Podcasts your podcasts etc and Apple TV for the rest, sound familiar? It certainly does so if you’re using an IOS device.

Joe,

I am surprised you sent a link to download V5.58, when I sent a DB link for
v5.70, the last version before the rewrite of V6, which, in my view, is by
far and away in advance of v5.58.

Hi.

I am running v6.35 on Windows 10, but still 1803. Using both jAWS and NVDA, I haven't experienced any hangs. The programme seems very stable on my machine.

I am writing in the hope that some list member might have a version of GoldWave older than 6.23 which he would be willing either to email as an attachment or to send a download link.

Older versions of the program worked fine, but 6.23 and subsequently
6.35 cause my system to hang, regardless of what screen reader I am using. Incidentally, I am running windows 10, 1809 although I had the same problem using 1803. It isn't a matter of just muting the sound card. I also should mention that I am having the same problem on another PC running 1809. Frankly, I am out of ideas.

Is any other list member having similar problems with the current incarnation of GoldWave?

I've put V5.70 on DropBox, I'll leave it there until Friday mid day UK time

Did you look at the visual tab in the control properties and set
everything you could to blank? Before I did this, I had some
problems, not as severe, but maybe this is something you could
experiment with and see what happens.

And the price range for these what’ll it be? I’d like to spend between $20USD up to maybe $50USD on such a recorder, if I might be able to find one with speech interface at this price? IN Mexican money it’d be within the range of $600MXN to about about $1000MXN. thanks for info.

Your newest choice now is the Olympus DM 720 or the LS P4. Meh setting up is just another day at the office if you've set up an Olympus before.
Now useing it may differ between your choice. Oh actually if you wana look the LS-14 also talks than there is the coolest of all the LS-100. I don't know if it's gone for good or if it's back. Meh maybe B&H hasn't fixed their page.

Re: Amazon Alexa and Skype

Dane Trethowan <grtdane@...>

Ive since been doing some research and there are still plenty of Amazon Echo Tap devices to be bought however they cannot be updated to support the latest offerings from Amazon and Skype Calling is one.
I do have an Amazon device which is stereo and that’s the Amazon Echo Show.
I bought the Show as it works with my Ring doorbell system I’ve talked about here along with the Echo Spot devices, 2 of which I’ve placed in different rooms on desktops so if the doorbell rings I’m usually on hand to answer using video and after today? Well I never realised just how handy this feature was given that today’s temperature of 5 degrees is extremely cold by our standards.
Back to echo and stereo. If you’re thinking of a stereo sound sound then there are several paths you can consider.
As you say, pairing 2 echo devices together is the obvious choice.
If you prefer good quality sound then you might consider getting 2 Echo Plus devices which are the top of the range in their class, excellent sounding speakers.
If you really love the speakers you already have - say a pair of B&W MM1 powered speakers - then you can buy the Echo Link that connects up to them directly.
There’s also the Echo Amp but I’ve not seen any favourable reviews of this device which is a shame. Amazon are in the perfect position to make a premium audiophile amp or at least a decent sounding amp which I’m sure a lot of people would by to integrate the Amazon system with their own classic speakers.

Subject: [all-audio] Amazon Alexa and Skype

Hi,
I recently set up my Amazon Alexa devices to work with Skype and was wondering If anyone else on list had done the same.
I’m quite impressed with the audio quality not from Skype so much but from the Amazon Alexa units themselves using Skype.
I intend to do a demo of how good the latest Amazon Alexa Echo Dot sounds when I’m talking from the opposite side of my room in my armchair from where the Dot is sitting on the shelf above my computer desk.
The idea of using Skype with your Alexa device is simple enough, just ask Alexa to call a number etc and Alexa will use your Skype account.
My interest in Skype had I thought disappeared completely until I learnt about integrating my Alexa devices into Skype.
This is handy not just for making everyday calls but a great security idea, if I have an accident, fall etc then I can summon help immediately given I have an Alexa in every room of my house now and can always add more if required.
My only disappointment with the whole Amazon Alexa thing is the fact that Amazon have seen fit not to continue development of the Amazon Alexa Tap device which I think still is one of the best thought out Amazon devices still around.

Hi Don,

I think it's auto scroll lock.
In the view menu. It should be checked.

There is a mute option, in the edit menu, I think the keystroke is
control-0, might this help?
Good luck, and I would like to know what the problem turns out to be.

Thanks so much, Joe, for your kind offer.  Actually, the keyboard I use has a key which mutes and restarts the sound card as a toggle.

Having checked that, however, the problem appears to be a Goldwave setting which thus far I haven't found but plan to contact the developer for ideas.

Speaking of Goldwave settings, there is one particular setting (not related to this problem) which I must set when using a screen reader for best performance.  Unfortunately, I can't recall what it is.  So if someone knows, please post on list.

Thanks.

Don't know if this would help, because the cause is not clear.

There is a small utility which, when installed, sets a function key to

So you could when this utility is running, press f9 and if muted, the
system is switched on again.

If this might help, drop me a not:
