Re: Program to play and extract audio and video

Hello John,

I understood that Reaper can do some work with video but viewing this video it is limited.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_zRGkO9-HQ

But as far as quality maintenance is concerned you are unlikely to do it. Because the way in which audio files are assembled. They have to be encoded to an editable format typically .wav which you can chop and cage as you wish. Then it has to be re-encoded.
Each of these processes loose quality. A compressed file is with parts of the audio removed to make the file smaller. No editing is going to be able to put back that was taken away by the producer.

Yeah they could. As they did with the F recorders. Now I don't know how up to date Andy's F8N is because actually it will beep. He could let us know if they get incoded to the file. I could try Neal but we'll see as he's not been answering dirrect email for a wile. I don't have Jonathan's other wize he's someone else to ask about the F6 to get an idea as to what they do. I'll test it out for myself first and see. But yes I usually congratulate them on takeing steps towards accessibility than suggest stuff. I even let them know that they are almost there. They are but for some instances where Olympus was before the DS recorders that talked. Recorders pryor to the first 3 DS 1s that spoke already did all the beeps and things. Don't know if they did the little music when you boot up or shut down. Which I've told I think that time it was Sam about.

Hello Hamit,

That was the version I found and posted here the extract talking about
beeps. As I am sure this is for when connected to a camera I haven’t
checked;
a) Whether my upgrade took.
b) If I can turn on the bleeps.

I would love to be wrong.

Regards,

Hello All,

I just saw this on the Reaper list and thought that those here who are not subscribed to RWP might like it.

Hello all,

It's not time for my normal monthly mail-out yet, but I wanted to share a really exciting new free resource -- and I also need your urgent help!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
---------- MY NEW FREE 'EXPERT TIPS' TUTORIAL PODCAST FOR SOUND ON
SOUND!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------

Some of you may already have spotted Sound On Sound magazine's recent announcement of three new podcast channels. One of these is dedicated to recording and mixing, and they've commissioned me to deliver its first tutorial show, called 'Expert Tracking & Mixing Tips' -- which has just gone live today! The first episode is all about compressing snare drums, and you can listen to that for free here:

https://share.transistor.fm/s/53c6630b

As you'll know if you've heard my Cambridge-MT Patrons Podcast, I'm a big fan of audio examples, so I'll be using lots of audio illustrations in this new SOS show as a matter of course -- indeed, there are more than 20 processing demonstrations just in the first 15-minute episode! Also, because playback quality is so important for audio tutorials, I've arranged with the magazine that the podcast won't have any mastering processing applied to it, since that'd interfere with the audio illustrations. And I've also arranged with them that they'll host a lossless 24-bit WAV download of the episode that you can import into your DAW for critical listening.

---------------------------------------
...AND I NEED YOUR URGENT HELP!
---------------------------------------

If you like the sound of this new podcast, can I also ask for your help?

The reason this show is completely free to you is that it's being funded by the magazine, and they'll understandably be monitoring download/subscribe numbers to decide whether it's worth continuing. So I'd like to ask you please to download my first 'Expert Tips' episode and subscribe to the 'Recording & Mixing' channel TODAY OR TOMORROW (ie. Thursday or Friday). If SOS see a big spike in their metrics for the launch of this show, that'll send the most powerful message that you want them to continue commissioning my show in the long term.

But why the rush? Well, the magazine themselves will be ramping up general publicity for the 'Recording & Mixing' channel over the weekend, so if you don't download/subscribe before then, your response may just get lost in the noise, and won't as clearly indicate support for this specific 'Expert Tips' podcast. So if you want the magazine to continue financing my free tutorials, I'd encourage you to act now -- it only takes a few seconds to download and subscribe. Here's that link again:

Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for another big new resource
announcement from me next week! I tell you, it's a three-ring circus
round here at the moment... :)

Cheers,
Gena

So where do you set the tones? Or did yours just magically do it? I only ask because Gena got confused as to weather hers updated or not. I know mine did. But I suspect like the F recorders you have to set the tones.

Ah okay so downloaded the right 1 than. Just wanted to be sure as when I
went to the page I saw nothing about beeps. I didn't see the right up
you posted I mean. It's hard to tell but it seemed from the write up you
have to in-able them. Someware in the rec menu. So I'll guess I'll have
to update it and see about the tones. I think this is the case on the F
recorders as well though. you have to turn the tones on.

Re: A Zoom question.

Joe,

I asked the original sender if the cam needs power, it seems it can be
powered even from an USB hub like mine.

I've sent the info via my P.A to her son who has an Amazon account, hope he
is able to order it for me to be delivered at my home address, hope, then,
it is a simple process of plugging in, finding the device in my Windows 7
sounds and audio devices and enabling same.

However, before attempting this, hope to avail myself of a pair of eyes to
peruse the documentation rather than go ploughing in feet first and possibly
damaging my system!

On a personla note, you did not come back to me about Paul David's online
problems whereas both Terry and Kevin did. It seems he's now sorted, had an
engineer out yesterday evening to replace his faulty power unit.
