Ah my favorite of the mics Neal Ewers has. Andy 1 thing to be aware with the NT1-A though it is a large diaphragm. Thus it's big and heavy. Gena you still here? What did you tell me like a pound or something? But yeah not discuraging. I want the factory stereo matched pair of NT1-A mics. It's been my fave ever since hearing it on Neal's Sound-devices 744-T recorder. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like on an F6. Or even the F8 if you get 1 Andy.

extremely low noise. You can get either a new or used one on ebay for a
fraction of the cost of a 416.

Hi all.

I've got both the Zoom H6 and the F8n, but the only microphones I have are
the 2 clip on ones that I origionally got with the H6.

I'm wanting to record the Dawn Chorus in my garden but don't have a clue as
to which microphone , or best type, to buy and where to buy it.

I think I need a directional Shot-gun microphone with a large Dead-Cat
windscreen, and also about 3 meters of cable with the appropriate XLR plugs.

Can anyone please give me some advice.

Also, My Zoom H6 is playing up. I think I've changed an inportant option
within the menues. I tried recording bird calls and the recording was
extremely poor. Is there perhaps a function within the H6 that Re-sets the
device back to factory settings.

I hope you are all okay and enjoying this period of noise pelution silence
to get very nice recordings. If so I'd love to here some samples.

Very best wishes and please take care of yourselves.

Hi Andy. Another thing to consider is do you want stereo? Cause you could for $400 get a pair of factory matched for Stereo SE Electronics SE-8 mics. Or maybe 2 shot guns again so you get stereo. You don't think the Snap off XY H6 mics will do?

Hey
Thanks Joe. Two of the four of us in the group (me and the chairman/leader) just tested it and although If ind it a bit uncanny that it works..it works really well. Everything is displayed in a nice text log on the main screen, too. Very nice, and indeed, clean interface, but I still don't really understand how to change settings or if I'm seeing everything on screen. As I'm not leading the group though and won't be initiating the connections yet, I think that's probably ok. Using Chrome, indeed, and audio quality is fantastic. Thanks!
If anyone has any other thoughts, shoot 'em in here.

Hello Andy,

It is down to you and how much you want to spend. I follow the Booth Junky who uses a shotgun microphone a lot. He uses the Sennheiser MKH-416. I haven’t been able to afford one of those but I do have the MKH-166 which I purchased used from eBay. I absolutely love it and is my mic of choice. I think that would really do the job.

Re: What Did They Do To Tapin Radio?

Doug and list: I did get the scheduling thing resolved! I figured out that
if you hit F8, this gives you a menu; one of the things I saw in that menu
was "schedule." So I went into there and saw something that said "internal
scheduler." So I saw it was uncheck; I checked it and solved that problem!
However, this "changing the volume" thing is touchy, for if I happen to be
recording something and try to change the volume of whatever's playing,
it'll somehow just throw me into something that stops the dammed recording!
I have heard from Raimersoft support, so maybe I can get him to help me
figure out how to avoid disrupting my recording!

Okay...I did find something that seems to be allowing me to schedule an
event! But they still have changed the way (and this is the "pro version)
control the volume! Used to be, Volume up was F9, while Volume down was F8;
now when I hit those keys, it seems to do something entirely different!
Just what it's doing, I don't know; what I do know is, if I do my control
down (as the help menu says to do) if I do it too many times, it'll kill my
recording! Why should this be? The thing is, there seems to be no rhyme or
reason why this should happen! To the best of my knowledge, I'm doing
nothing that I'm not supposed to do! Yet, if I'm not careful, if I want to
turn the volume down so I can do other things, I'll see it just minimize
itself and then...I'll notice that it is no longer recording; this just
shouldn't be happening!

Re: Jfw, scripts, Goldwave6, and loud noise in audio

Steve Jacobson

Dave,

To my ears, this sounds like a monaural sound so it likely is the same on both channels, so using one channel or the other probably won't make much difference. Second, this noise seems to me to be pretty broad band, or at least it likely is strongest in the same frequency range that contains the information that makes speech intelligible. I don't think filtering by frequency is going to be very effective.

Is this noise always there, does it repeat often, or is it a one-time sound? Replacing the noise with silence might be the best bet, although deleting the noise might also work unless it affects the rhythm of the rest of what is being recorded. If the sound is tinny, as you described it, it would seem you are not limiting the effects you are trying to the duration of the noise itself. This noise is so loud that I don't think you will be able to apply anything to the entire recording to get rid of it. Still, if you can describe whether this sound is constant, repeats often, or just happens a few times, that might influence what one might do.

Best regards,

Steve

Hello,

It is kind of a personal nature.

What I can do is provide a sample of the noise that resides in the
file. I've tried everything I can to filter it out, drop the volume,
tried some band pass/stop, low and high pass, but i'm either not doing
it right, not the right settings, but I have reduced it, but in doing
so the underlying audio the stuff I'm trying to hear gets really tinny
sounding. Part of it is I did not make this and I think the person who
did it did not do well with it, they encoded at 22050KHZ I think but
it's slow, so that the full file is over 27 hours long, changing the
rate to 44100 makes it intelligible and drops the file length to just
over 13 hours.

Here's the link to the interference pattern I'm trying to eliminate.
Again I can use Goldwave, reaper, or audacity, if anyone has
suggestions i'm open to them.

https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dropbox.com%2Fs%2Fr8qba57lib1z0db%2Fnoise.wav%3Fdl%3D0&;data=02%7C01%7C%7C7f3ae92f41e5416ba33608d7ed385363%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637238698476286289&sdata=%2Bxxt3cpCpHBzk55R9rK9lLRmdBwB4hHYZkDd1edKZg8%3D&reserved=0
