Winamp Volume Level

Howard Traxler <howard@...>

Hi All,

I'm using an older version of Winamp because I thought Win10 migh keep it in focus while playing.  It does not.

My question:  When I move to the window that Winamp is playing in, the up and down arrows do not control volume level any more. I think it used to work, but now it don't.  What did I do wrong? Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.

Howard

Hi Howard,

Try the following.

1. Press ctrl+p for preferences.
2. Arrow up or down to Plugins. If it is closed, press right arrow to open it.
3. Arro to Output.
4. Assuming you are using the Nullsoft DirectSound Output plugin, tab to configure and press space.
5. Tab to the current tab name (e.g. device, Buffering, Fading or Other).
6. Arrow to the Other tab if not already there.
7. Tab to Enable volume control and ensure that it is checked.
8. Tab to OK and press enter.
9. Tab to Close and press enter.

See if that helps.

Regards,
Barry Chapman

Thanks Barry, but I don't have the right buttons.

When I press on configure, I have OK, Cancel, apply, reset all. I don't get a multi-page dialog at that point.

Barry again, Under output, I have only three plugins. disk write, direct out, and wav out.  Under wav out I get a dialog when I press configure.  The volume contol is checked but it still doesn't work.  Maybe I should reinstall winamp.  I'll try the later one again.  I want to set it so the stop and pause does not fade.  I used to get that and volume control with arrows but maybe my winamp got corrupted?  Do you think that's possible?

Thanks again.

I’m looking forward to the audio side of things with this device and to see if Samsung have made any improvements in the quality of the internal speakers.
I have been using Samsung phones regularly since the Samsung Note4.
I then upgraded to a S6, skipped the S7, upgraded to a S8 and I’m using the S9 now.
With every upgraded Samsung have leapt forward in huge bounds with regards to the internal speakers of the Galaxy devices, even the Samsung Galaxy S3 all those years ago would give a lot of phones available now a good run for their money the it comes to sound from the internal speakers.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 was the first Galaxy phone I am aware of to offer stereo internal speakers which seem to be pretty standard on most premium phones these days.
The Sony xPeria X-Performance phone I owned before getting the Samsung S9 certainly had stereo speakers with a great sound to boot.
I still use IOS as well and have been using an iPhone 8 for the last 6 months, a huge improvement on sound quality from the iPhone 6s I had been using.
Anyway I’ll let the list know what I find.
Perhaps others have the S10 or have heard it?

I know with the S9 that loud volume is.. well.. exactly that, loud, 70% of volume is more than enough for me.
The S9 can distort ad volumes around 90% so I wonder when distortion kicks in with the S10?

Re: memory error when loading tracks in soundforge11?

Curtis Delzer

well, is it by Sony, or is it by Magix, they are Sound Forge in both places. Magix took over the administration of SF when version twelve was released. If you haven't updated to 12, you still may be using a Magix version 11 of the software. If you had to re-install 11, you had to then download the file from Magix, though you may have a version from Sony backed up along with your original serial number from Sony. Now that Magix as taken over sound forge your Sony files are useless. I KNOW, because I had my version 11 pro along with my version from Sony serial number ready to go in case I had to re-install.  When I did re-install, and attempted to re-use my serial number, I was directed to the Magix servers for my account where it acted like I was welcome, to download all the so-called original sound forge files, though they were not original, they all have the Magix logo within them.

When I re-installed sf 11 with serial number I began having the same kinds of "not enough memory" messages.

So, if you have not re-installed your Sony sound forge 11 and did not go anywhere to re-download version 11 I can't help, except to say that the coincidence is suspicious that the Magix company is pulling some real shit around here.

I wonder what the hell is going on here as this problem has been extensively discussed on list in the not to distant past as I myself was involved in the discussion and published a tutorial on how to fix this problem.
The original author of the thread might think about searching the list archives or better still going to Google where this topic is addressed in a full tutorial, in fact I posted it here.
I won’t go over it all again, not because I want to be nasty but because my post was fairly old now but will make a few crucial points.
Firstly the problems yexperienced are pretty much down to the absence of Windows Framework which was common in Windows versions before 10.
Since Windows 10 has arrived Microsoft have been gradually fazing Windows Framework out thus software developers who relied on the framework being present have been rewriting their software hence the release of Magix Sound Fort 12 Pro and 13 Audio Studio for Windows.
You can battle on with Sound Forge Pro 11 if you like and try to reinstall Windows Framework as I did quite some time ago.
The better way to go in my view is to call Sound Forge 11 a Dead Loss and upgrade to 12 where you’ll immediately notice a difference in faster loading and processing times for your audio projects etc.
I bought the software on special for $199 so take a look at the Magix web site and see if they have any offers for upgrading.

This happens after a fresh restart and there is only 10 percent of
memory being used out of the 32gb.

On my laptop that has half the memory soundforge11 runs without issue.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled soundforge with the same result.

Any ideas?

Re: Winamp Volume Level

Well Now:  Thanks guys.  I took out the Winamp I was using (5.3 something) andinstalled 5.66 again.  Now everything is working like it should again.  It still doesn't grab focus when it starts, but I just alt-shift-tab to it and it's fine.

Thanks.

Howard

Hey.
No, I think it has to do with the direct sound output plugin. Experiment with the settings in the configure dialogue.

Hi All,

I'm using an older version of Winamp because I thought Win10 migh keep
it in focus while playing. It does not.

My question: When I move to the window that Winamp is playing in, the
up and down arrows do not control volume level any more. I think it
used to work, but now it don't. What did I do wrong? Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.

Howard

definitely, and more than once, even making sure all registry entries were cleaned out, at least the obvious ones from Magix, and sound forge.
