The recording is better than the few copies I have on CD are by miles and I’d love to know if such a good recording is available anywhere.
I’m sure you know the track, , I started recording near the middle so I went back to the start of the track at the end so you’ll hear the whole thing.
Anyway enjoy and thanks for your feedback.

Apple TV

Dane Trethowan

Hi,
I received my new Apple TV on Tuesday so I won’t go on about it since the topic has been covered extensively on list as is.
One function I use a lot is the Bluetooth connectivity whether I’m connecting to a Bluetooth Keyboard, Braille Display or Audio device.
The latter of the 3 devices is interesting as it means you can use the bluetooth Headset or Speaker of your choice for audio output thus illuminating the need for any HDMI conversion adapters or even the purchase of a Surround-Sound receiver.
I have a Surround-Sound unit in my Entertainment room however the use of my B&W T7 as an audio output device is no doubt convenient.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to access the Plex App and that leaves me a little disappointed however there may be other ways around that.
All the “Catch-Up” Free-To-Air Apps seem perfectly useable which is a huge plus. I have other Set Top Box units under the Android System and the Apps are Bitter Sweet there, some are easy to use whilst others are not.
Siri seems to work as well as I had hoped.
I hope that Apple consider building support into the Apple TV for hearing devices such as hearing instruments etc as Apple have done with IOS devices and if Apple do that then the Apple TV is an excellent piece of equipment which is just about as perfect as one can get.

getting the key into Sound Forge 12

I am having much difficulty  getting the serial number into SF12Pro64. There is so many undecipherable characters, and though I can get any screen reader I have to say "activate with serial number," and "run as demo, and  "why register," I cannot get it to do anything after I paste the bleeping serial number into the program and then press "activate . . " or, even paste the serial number into the program and then press "active . . "

Any of you have a secret way, with screen reader or will I need to get some eyes on this project. (not easy to do since I have no monitor for the PC at all.)

THANKS I've activated all my sound forges beforehand, beginning with sf5 when it was Sonic Foundry.

and, I must say "nice niece" you have there, :) and fortunate you are! THANK YOU! I did get it working, found there were 2 edit fields, both unlabeled, one didn't have room for my serial number, so I deduced that it may require my email address.  Then, when I did that, I got the prompt, "do you wish to register this software on-line?" and that worked! For some projects there is none like the old reliable SF, and one thing guys; If you have an earlier than "magix" original product, like Sony SF 11 pro, and have to re-enter the code, you have to re-download the software, and though it may get activated under Magix, when you try and use it you'll get an "out of memory" error, which simply means they did sabotage

Re: getting the key into Sound Forge 12

I haven’t piped up until now.
I did enter the serial number into my SF 12 Pro product though it did take me a little time.
I don’t remember exactly what I did and should have taken notes as I’ll most likely have to do it all again in the not to distant future.
I’m sure I had to manually enter the code rather than copying and pasting thus I had 2 Apps open at the same time, the web browser with my SF Product Support page open at the serial number and SF itself so I toggled the two to get information from one to the other, copying and pasting just didn’t work.
Anyway despite that hard work and annoyance I think the upgrade is well worth the money.
SF 12 Studio runs a lot faster than did 11 and with no errors, incredibly efficient in background tasks too which is more than can be said for previous versions of SF.
Up until SF 12 only SF For Mac was as stable so the rewrite of the Windows version was well worth it I reckon.

well, hey I was lucky enough to get copy and paste to work, and I learned about the two edit boxes, I guess the one was for my email address and the other for my serial number. It was only then could I get to ask me to "register on line," which I gleefully accepted.

For the sake of discussion, I tried, again, to load a project into SF11 pro which worked while it was Sony, but not when it was registered using the downloaded program and my serial number which did get it working "registered," accept, once again, the program froze, and said my system was low on memory, (16gigs, so yah, sure) and to free up some memory by unloading other programs, yadda yadda.

So, I uninstalled sf-pro11, and all is OK, now. I do want those scripts from the Snowman, though.

also getting into the sound reduction properties, changing them, and saving the schemes for different kinds of media is as easy with 12.1 proas it was with 8.0, when NR2.0 was new. :)

and saving it with speech is as it w

memory error when loading tracks in soundforge11?

Hi all,

I have two machines running win10 1803.

On my desktop that has 32gb ram soundforge 11 gives an error saying there was an error during playback when loading a file.

The error says to exit other programs that maybe using memory.

This happens after a fresh restart and there is only 10 percent of memory being used out of the 32gb.

On my laptop that has half the memory soundforge11 runs without issue.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled soundforge with the same result.

Any ideas?

TIA.

Samsung Galaxy S10

Dane Trethowan

Opportunity knocked so I answered and should have this very soon.
I’m looking forward to the audio side of things with this device and to see if Samsung have made any improvements in the quality of the internal speakers.
I have been using Samsung phones regularly since the Samsung Note4.
I then upgraded to a S6, skipped the S7, upgraded to a S8 and I’m using the S9 now.
With every upgraded Samsung have leapt forward in huge bounds with regards to the internal speakers of the Galaxy devices, even the Samsung Galaxy S3 all those years ago would give a lot of phones available now a good run for their money the it comes to sound from the internal speakers.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 was the first Galaxy phone I am aware of to offer stereo internal speakers which seem to be pretty standard on most premium phones these days.
The Sony xPeria X-Performance phone I owned before getting the Samsung S9 certainly had stereo speakers with a great sound to boot.
I still use IOS as well and have been using an iPhone 8 for the last 6 months, a huge improvement on sound quality from the iPhone 6s I had been using.
Anyway I’ll let the list know what I find.
Perhaps others have the S10 or have heard it?

Yep only Bluetooth and HDMI.
If you want something with Toslink Out then you might try one of the other similar devices on the market which are incredibly flexible.

Winamp Volume Level

Howard Traxler <howard@...>

Hi All,

I'm using an older version of Winamp because I thought Win10 migh keep it in focus while playing.  It does not.

My question:  When I move to the window that Winamp is playing in, the up and down arrows do not control volume level any more. I think it used to work, but now it don't.  What did I do wrong? Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Howard,

Try the following.

1. Press ctrl+p for preferences.
2. Arrow up or down to Plugins. If it is closed, press right arrow to open it.
3. Arro to Output.
4. Assuming you are using the Nullsoft DirectSound Output plugin, tab to configure and press space.
5. Tab to the current tab name (e.g. device, Buffering, Fading or Other).
6. Arrow to the Other tab if not already there.
7. Tab to Enable volume control and ensure that it is checked.
8. Tab to OK and press enter.
9. Tab to Close and press enter.

See if that helps.

Thanks Barry, but I don't have the right buttons.

Barry again, Under output, I have only three plugins. disk write, direct out, and wav out.  Under wav out I get a dialog when I press configure.  The volume contol is checked but it still doesn't work.  Maybe I should reinstall winamp.  I'll try the later one again.  I want to set it so the stop and pause does not fade.  I used to get that and volume control with arrows but maybe my winamp got corrupted?  Do you think that's possible?

Thanks again.
