all ok, and that is exactly where it is. I got the manual, though it was a matter of finally them accepting what I put in for model number, and then I got all 54 pages of and read it with my Kurzweil 1000, just about perfectly. Some of the menu descriptions were scattered, but I got that the 4 TV units were all a little different in their back panels, like one of them had that earphone socket in front, etc. and some had off/on controls on the rear where mine does not. :)
So, with a huge sigh of relief now, with your help which is truly appreciated and your effort, I am finally going to hit the sack. Been quite a long day catching up with emails plus all the rest of the stuff I do round here. :)

Hi, and thanks for looking. I can not find any earphone output on the front surface of the set, so if it is there, it is well hidden. The only
HDMI connectors I find are on the back, and the HDMI are in a line from bottom to top number 1 2 and 3. take care and thanks again for all the help.

The optical digital output socket should be on the rear of your set. It seems there’s an analogue 3.5MM socket on the front of the set for headphones. The manual is a little confusing so I can’t say for sure what other sockets are on the rear of the Television apart fro at least 1 hDMI input - also on the front -, an LAN port and the power socket.

The Optical Digital connector looks different from other connectors. Its a square connector and in some cases may be covered by a flap which opens when an optical connector itself is inserted, much like the old car cassette players we used opened when a cassette was pushed against the flap. The Optical out jack could also possibly take the form of a 3.5MM minijack, this arrangement is used to provide both analogue and digital audio out form the same jack.

I found the light on the back of the TV close to the other connectors, is that the optical digital connector for audio? This is a technology I am totally not familiar with, so I wish to learn! I expect that in some ways it is kind of like Bluetooth? just speculating as to how it connects to speakers or is it somewhat like an infrared connection to remotes where any interaction with the lights . . .
anyway, thanks guys for your patience with me in all this.

So there we are, that’s the first I’ve ever heard of a TV having a HDMI out and obviously some do however the more common standard for audio is an optical out and at least one HDMI input, I’m willing to bet that the tV we’re discussing has at least and possibly more. So the idea being that the TV is connected for audio purposes to the Soundbar or speaker system with an Optical Digital cable. That way - if required - the soundbar/speakers can get extra effects that Digital TV now offers.

We have a Sony TV that we got a little over three years ago. The installers gave me an HDMI cable (looks home made) with RCA male jacks on the other end. I plug them into my stereo auxilary inputs and, of course, have window-rattling speakers on the other end.. The three RCA females on the TV are for input only. Other ways of input are through HDMI connections.

Well this is suppose to be a top-of-the-line Vizio 4k 50-inch ultra smart TV, so it's connection should be top-of-the-line and conform to state-of-the-art.)

Oh and as a footnote. Most Soundbars as far as I know take a digital audio feed from your Televisions so your Television will more than likely have at least a digital audio output.

thanks, these "sound bars," as such, the name confuses me, is it confined to a small area like a bar meaning length of the bar, or would you define it? Seems the TV has analog outputs, but they are RCA and don't change with the TV volume, other wise it'd be easy. I don't know if the TV has blue tooth or not. :) thanks

The first thing you will need to do is to work out whether the TV has a digital or analogue out. Then perhaps go looking for a Soundbar. These are quite cheap now and no, we???re not talking about surround sound necessarily unless you really want that. I???ve seen 2.1 channel soundboards about the place which work quite well. The other option might be getting something like a Key Egg system which is effectively a small bookshelf system so you could put each speaker on either side of the television.

Hi! Last week about this time I won a 50 inch 4K ultra Vizio smart TV, and need some speakers. We don't need surround sound just simple and sounding good. I think the back of the TV has RCA jacks for audio, but the output is not variable from them so I suppose there should be a remote which can be then handled by the main remote for volume from the cable box. We have Spectrum out here, so the cable box now talks. So please, suggest what you recommend I buy. My wife is getting impatient, :) (sort of) but we wish something decent sounding which I know you guys understand. :)
THANKS and please believe me, I sort of feel in a void as to what to look for, and where to find it. Amazon is good for us.
