HF+ updates

mike

I have an Airspy HF+ purchased from the first batch from Seed. It has never
been upgraded or modified.
Apart from the fact I have never seen instructions on how to do it, I see from
comments on the list that some software upgrades and hardware mods have been
released.
Is it worth my updating it, and if so, where are the destructions and relevant
files?
My use is as a general coverage receiver, nothing too demanding or critical.
thanks, Mike

For the destruction, a heavy hammer will do.... 8-)

I updated mine recently, and I think it's probably worth it; if you run into problems, it's the first thing anyone will ask: is it running the latest version?

You can find a pointer to the updates and instructions here:

https://airspy.com/airspy-hf-plus/

Scroll to the bottom. You'll need Windows.

I needed to do it twice, because the batch file errors out the first time before the driver gets installed, but no big deal, just wait until Windows finishes and then run it again.

If  you down load the latest firmware, there is a Readme.txt file.
Here is the info:

Pre-requisites:
1.    Windows 10 or Windows 7

Standard Firmware Upgrade Procedure:
1.    Connect the unit to the PC
2.    Double click on flash.bat
3.    Disconnect the device from the PC
4.    Connect the device again
5.    Done

Recovery Procedure:
Due to a bug in the first firmware, this procedure must be used for the first firmware upgrade. Subsequent updates should work with the standard procedure above.

1.    Open the HF+ enclosure
2.    Connect the device to the PC
3.    Short the Erase pins for one second (see the photo)
4.    Disconnect the device from the PC
5.    Connect the device again
6.    Double click on flash.bat
7.    Wait until it flashes and verifies the data
8.    Disconnect the device from the PC
9.    Connect the device again
10.    Done

At the bottom of the page there is the last update and download it. If you open the .zip file there are also instructions to do so.

Hi there.
I got a DISCOVERY.
Can anyone tell me how to: "... Open the HF+ enclosure..." in a safe way?

I had the insane idea to update to R.3.0.6-CD ...

Thanks in advance.

Just run the right flash package again.

Done, working again. Thanks.

By the way that means:
my discovery unit belongs to "first batch" and in the future I must always install fw updates with trailing -BB?

Yeah, there were some updates to the AGC if I recall correctly, you're gonna want those.

The need to open the case only applies to earley examples of the original dual port HF+.
It never applies to the HF+ Discovery.

Please could you clarify how to tell if you need the -BB or  the -CD firmware.

If your current firmware is BB, then flash BB. If it's CD, then flash CD.
The difference between the two is the initialization sequence of the tuners (same silicon, different ROM).

Thanks.
