Thanks for the response Denny.

Direction finding is more useful for the base stations.

I was hoping for something more on the mobiles.
Alternator whine and wind/mechanical noise can be useful characteristics for a rough identification. Even microphone physical noise when they let go of the PTT. Also the times of activity show the modus operandi. Hence the time stamp.

This is more of a "might be this person" than "evidence of violation" type of interest.

Got it to work ... thanks for the help everyone!

Evidently my device should have come with a card, directing me to download the proper USB driver for the dongle.

My brother in law directed me to the website, and I was able to download and install the driver.

I'm good to go for now ... thanks again!

We *think* that indicates that it is installed as the remote control.

Remove the driver and reinstall it paying close attention to which
device is selected.

Even if this is not the issue, driver re-installation is a good place to
start.

Gary, (and note there is general info for everyone below the first paragraph)
You are very early on Batch 3. We will be reaching out to some in the first two batches (about a dozen) who "pre-ordered" (sent emails expressing interest) and have not yet placed an order. If those units are not ordered/claimed, we will fill pending orders in order and you may be early enough to receive one of those antennas. Aside from that dozen or so, batches 1 and 2 are sold out and shipped. Batch 3 is sold out and awaiting inventory replenishment.
We are currently working on Batch 4 and have about 52 units left in that batch. We will fulfill orders as inventory is received. As most everyone knows, international shipping is not running on a normal schedule currently. But we hope to receive batch 3 (and maybe batch 4) in the next week or two. We will likely order batch 5 very soon.
The run on the YouLoop has been perhaps the largest demand over all previous product releases.
To address a few recurring questions:
* We do not know when the preamplifier will be available.
* We do not know the price of the preamplifier.
* The loop diameter is approximately two feet.
Also please keep in mind the current climate of minimal staff available to process and pack orders. We are not calling in extra help at this time given the desire to keep everyone safe and minimize the chances of exposure to COVID-19 even though we are still in a modestly hit zone (only a few cases in our area with the closest about 10 miles or so away). On the other hand, it's not as if there are a lot of "regular off-hours activities" to take time away from packing orders. But I do not plan on the 20-hour days that we had with the Black Friday blitz either. Our current strategy is to limit contact to only incoming inventory (with a preference that items are left outside using visual approvals), and with the post office clerk when orders are shipped. We MAY limit shipping to three days each week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) to further reduce that contact. But if we have enough orders to justify shipping, we will ship that day even if it is on a Tuesday or Thursday.
We have been looking into UPS as an option for larger orders, but that is in a holding pattern currently.
We are also looking at other options as we all deal with this pandemic.
We expect to be shipping as long as USPS is available, as we have emails from more than one US Federal Government agency who have placed orders stating that they are in "urgent need" of the ordered products. Since there is no time difference to scan one package or one hundred (they are all scanned on a single consolidated shipping form), we see no impact of adding other orders to that delivery. We also fall into more than one category authorized to remain open under current Pennsylvania business closure mandates.
For Airspy SDR stock, we are still looking good for now with the exception of the HF+ Dual Port which is out of stock. We have a pending order of Airspy inventory that we expect soon, but again delivery time is uncertain. All accessories are also in good supply. When things started hitting the fan, we ordered extra stock in anticipation of uncertain availability. Our goal was to get to 200% of normal stock, and we got a good way there on the best sellers.
In case not everyone has heard, the Dayton Hamvention is cancelled this year so we will not be in attendance.
Stay safe everyone. This is a good time to enjoy using Airspy SDRs while we practice social distancing and avoid social activities.

I can add my voice to the pleased new users of the YouLoop. Mine came in the mail yesterday (thanks for the quick shipping, AirSpy US!).

I initially was disappointed with what I thought was a faulty YouLoop antenna..I had tried multiple receivers including the HF+ Discovery and different lengths of coax lead-in, and wasn't getting ANY signals, even my local medium wave stations. One of them is as strong as -21 to -13 dBM, depending on which active loop antenna I'm using at the time; I figured at least this station should show up on the YouLoop.

Well, I had jumped to conclusions. After further investigations today I discovered a bad SMA Male to BNC Male adapter! My other two such adapters on hand proved to be just fine and the YouLoop came to life! I'm impressed with this AirSpy antenna considering its passive nature and reasonable cost. This will be a fun antenna to use while traveling and camping, as it is so compact and can be deployed quickly. You can even just drape it over a convenient shrub or branch and it will work well.

So, may my experience be a reminder to others--don't automatically point your finger at an antenna if at first it doesn't seem to work right (or at all). There are other links in the receiving chain, and in my case this small adapter was actually the bad link. The YouLoop itself is fine, and I know others who have bought this antenna will be pleased.

There probably is, but i can't figure out how to make visible.

They are there, but the problem is that you are seen a large spectrum span. The grey region shows the actual bandwidth in use (i.e. 12 kHz for NBFM and with this span the graphical width of the bandwidth is a pixel or less.

The solution is to reduce de span (zoom) so the region is expanded. The zoom control is at the upper right corner, and once you see the grey zone you can drag it with the mouse, just position the cursor at any of the bandwidth edges (the right place is signaled by a change of the cursor) and drag.

Another way of changing the bandwidth numerically is in the Radio panel, there is a box for it.

I'm not sure what do you mean, but if you a talking about the tuning lines in the waterfall display, the procedure is the same.

c. How do I pull up the Favorites screen so I can add favorite frequencies to it ?
I'm sorry, I don't use Favorites. I use a plugin (Frequency Manager Suite) from Jeff Knapp for this purpose.

d. Can I load something like eibi into it ?
My previous response applies to this also.

e. The vertical band with a number (fluctuates) in it on the right hand side of the Spectrum display.
What is it signifying, please ?
It is a measure of the signal to noise ratio. Useful for comparing antennas and receiver settings, much better than the classical S-Meter that don't give you all the story.

f. And, final one, honest:  How do i change the range (the horizontal axis) of the Spectrum display ?
I explained that in the response to "a.".

The (desirable) problem we are facing now is that the features in the plugins summed together exceed the default features of the base software itself. This requires a good community documentation for every plugin.
Writing technical documentation is a full time job on its own. The plugin contributions rarely contain the documentation, but at the same time we cannot blame the authors. Everybody is trying his/her best.

There ain't no such thing as a bad question. Operating SDR# is straightforward when using the default settings, but if you want to leverage all the specialty features, you will need some knowledge about software defined radio and digital signal processing, which is not specific to SDR#.
Concerning the support. The primary function of SDR# is to operate the Airspy hardware, but a selection of third party hardware can also work. The support is organized professionally with a system of tickets handled by our distributors network listed in our website. We do not delegate the support of our products to forums or mailing lists. Our official distributors have a long experience in the radio communications industry and have had the necessary training to diagnose and help answering most of the questions. If there is anything missing, they will escalate to the engineering team.
For everything else, this mailing list is recommended for discussions and sharing experiences.

======================================

Bob,

I was also disappointed that non-one else has yet answered, but perhaps they have more important concerns on their minds at the moment.

I'll ask you a question: what receiver hardware are you using?

a. The receiver Source bandwidth must exceed the Radio bandwidth for the grey area (radio bandwidth) to be visible over the black area (source bandwidth). The colours depend on the "theme" you have chosen.

b. I see no green line.

c. That's the Frequency Manager plug-in. Have a play with the New Edit and Delete buttons.

d. No experience with that.

e. Some measure of signal level, possibly SNR, in relative dB.

f. Use the Zoom slide on the top right of the window.

I couldn't find a basic tutorial with a quick search either, one from 2014!

Cheers,
David

You have had few replies because there is no official manual. I've seen a few private attempts to help but only of of date basics.
The best a newcomer can do is google "SDR# tutorial" and go from there. Fundamentally just leave everything at default except for defining your radio type.
I guess the idea is that once you have the basic idea you search and play around the more complex things.

Or, use other software which has better support.

Hi,

Just don't have enough knowledge to do so, or from the only User manual writeup i could
find anywhere that describes it.

Some value, but obviously not written for the latest ...1732 version.
Very different.

Thought I would contact them directly, as haven't received any answers to my Post of a  day
or so ago (about the third msg down in the listings now),
but unable to find any Contact-Us or eMail address.
Apparently they don't want to be bothered, I guess.

If anyone could see my Post asking some pretty basic questions (will blame it on my age now, as well as the lack of up to date documentation)
and perhaps provide some information, would be most appreciative.

Thanks again, really appreciate the help,

Don't know if I could assemble Deep Learning to watch it all the time.

I was thinking something like recording I and Q with a timestamp. You want to start recording before the squelch opens and stop after the squelch closes, so a continuous buffer. Once you have the signal profile, you can do the matching at leisure.

The old MS-DOS XMIT_ID program is still available, but I was hoping for something more modern and maybe in Linux.

Deviation would be neat Joe. I could calibrate it with my Marconi signal generator.

I've thought about that exact same thing. It would be an interesting plugin. The one I'm waiting for more is a deviation plugin.
There may be programs that use discriminator audio to fingerprint.
I'm not sure if those could be adapted to IQ input.
Maybe using a virtual audio cable, it might work.

We *think* that indicates that it is installed as the remote control.

Remove the driver and reinstall it paying close attention to which
device is selected.

Even if this is not the issue, driver re-installation is a good place to
start.

I dont think my computer is properly identifying the USB device. The
hardware is identified as an RTL2838UHIDIR and its listed under
Bluetooth and Other Devices (Mouse, Keyboard, and Pen). The eject
option is for an HID Infrared Remote Receiver. Does any of that make
sense? The Airspy program doesnt list a device, which is why (I
think) it isnt working yet.

I working with my brother in law and hope to make progress later today
