No. The discovery has a much better front-end: More filtering, Higher sensitivity and lower noise figure.
If you are already using a Discovery, the only remaining optimization is your antenna.

Airspy HF+ Discovery and Spyverter #hardware #spyserver #sdrsharp #gnuradio #airspydiscovery

Does it make any sense to use Spyverter with Airspy HF+ Discovery?  Would it improve HF 15 to 30 MHz receive sensitivity, etc?

Airspy Mini and C-Band Inmarsat Aero Messages #hardware #sdrsharp

I'm considering the cost of setting up a C-Band collection point to decode CPDLC messages off the Inmarsat satellites at C-Band.

If I were to use an appropriate size dish and a C-Band LNB such as the Titanium type can I connect that LNB directly to an Airspy Mini receiver and view the signals at L-Band frequencies?

Any other guidance won't go without appreciation.

Thanks Bjaerne. Will have a look then. Thanks for your interesting tweets. Always appreciated. Missing to go to Norway....

SDR# - Preview window with Spectrum and Waterfall

Would like a zoomed preview window like SDR Console V3 has.

Anyone working on a plugin like this or have some code that might be adapted?

You need to use the Baseband Recorder plugin for that (assuming you meant to record IQ files. Anyway, I think the same goes for audio recordings).

Prog.... would you be so kind as to consider adding the ability to turn on and off the bias-T on a spyserver'd Airspy device ?
Would be very handy.

Feature request: right hand sliders on all the time?

Pekka Sorjonen

Hi again.

The more I use it, the more I like it. One thing I noticed missing. When I close the base menu on the left, it also hides the right hand zoom/contrast/range/offset sliders. And if I want to change contrast or zoom differently I have to "open" the base menu from the left upper corner. But I don´t need the menu I just need the right hand sliders. If it was just me they can be there permanently or if they were hidden and activated by mouse movement over them, that would be cool :). Fine work!

Thank you in advance.

Re: Option to choose different receivers?

When you are adding this, would it be possible to 'tag' an ESN?
That way it would say "VHF" or "UHF" or "800" or "ADSB" beside the ESN?

This could be stored in the Airspy or just in the PC - either way.
If in the PC, the ESN/Tag info could be stored in a config file.

Hi

Is there any way to change SDR#'s recording directory e.g. to an external HDD? Have not spotted anything in the config files, may have missed it.

Thanks

Hi Youssef,

About my suggestion to jump the VFO in order to see the spectrum  above or below the current chunk, I did not noticed that clicking on the VFO strip near any end the program does these  jumps.  Even being a long time user, everyday you find an unknown feature.

Thank you,

Ignacio, EB4APL

Please do it, I would find it very useful.

Check SDR# rev 1714.

And I would suggest another goodie: when moving the LO with the cursor, please also displace the waterfall in order to give continuity to the history.  The new part of the spectrum would be black, of course. SDR Console does it.

Later, later.

Being there, a means to jump the LO a full (or near full) spectrum width, up or down would be appreciated. It is good as a kind of fast visual band scanning. Now I do it dragging the LO from one edge to the other, but something like HDSDR does with an arrow at each spectrum edge is very comfortable.

Ignacio, EB4APL

This one was actually planned. You will like the final results.

Re: Help with AirSpy

Henk

Hi Michael,

Thanks for starting this interesting topic. I'm a happy R2 and Mini user and just today I've been busy optimizing the Gain settings. I've got them set in this manner now:

- R2 with 20 db pre-amp: Free 4 8 8
- Mini without pre-amp: Free 4 12 12

I recognise what you say about the IF gain, higher than 4 only increases the noise floor here.

Hello Ross,

I guess you had the HF+ Discovery connected to a Arduino or simular,  the driver you loaded manually was a RS232 to USB driver.

If I'm well, the Flash.bat should have done that automatically, for a PC it loads the libusb driver.

Best regards

Jos

I got "No instance(s) available" as I was trying to update the firmware shortly after I got my HF+ discovery. I thought I'd turned it into a brick and was about to post a sad message here but then ...

I looked in the unzipped firmware folder and found a "driver" folder. I manually installed the x64 driver in that directory and then to my surprise and relief it worked.  Something similar might work for you although I'm not sure if I could give step by step instructions.

You are right, device manager does not show  the device after connecting  it to the USB port.

Hi Prog,

Today I received the airspy HF+ Discovery from China, no tax !.

When I connected it to the USB port of my new computer it's recognised and installed, it's running fine with SDR# !!

When I connect the 2 port HF+ with the same cable (supplied with Discovery) it's NOT recognised.

I did the same on the computer of my neighbour, The results were the same, 2 port HF+ was NOT recognised.

So now it's crystal clear that the 2 port Airspy HF+ is defective.

Jos,

Have you tried reprogramming the firmware?  I'm wondering whether it's stuck in bootloader mode?

Just a thought....

Cheers,
David
