Are you aware that direct conversion receivers need IQ correction? Well, this new code improves their image rejection performance.
If you don't know what is a direct conversion receiver, you can ignore the above message and just update.

PS: RF knowledge needed. Not so for programming.

Can someone please explain in non-programmers language what this is and how I can use this if at all?
I currently run GQRX in Linux and whilst OK, I am sure I am missing out a lot of performance enhancements that I read about here.
I can quite happily compile the above but what exactly have I compiled and is it any use to me?

Hi,

I use the scanner a lot and Always the dynamic noise floor. In my opinion, it makes a reset round and sets all the current S/N levels to be zero. So when the real scanning starts, it is triggered by a S/N level that is a certain number of dB's over what the noise floor was when the reset round run.

This is my first post to the group, so trust this is OK.
 
I need some help getting “Spyserver” to execute.
 
I recently purchased an Airspy HF+ SDR and this is working great.
 
I wish to set this up at a remote site and using Spyserver access the airspy from my home location via the internet. This would of course be available to selected other people to access.
 
I have edited the Spyserver config file to access the Airspy HF+ and saved. Confident this file is OK.
 
When I double click the Spyserver.exe file nothing happens except that a text file comes up on the screen. The last line of the text file says; Listening for connections on 0.0.0.0:5555.
The next line starts with a blinking cursor but cannot type anything.
 
I suspect at this point Spyserver should open but nothing happens regardless of whether the Airspy is active or in-active. It did execute once as I was shutting things down to go visiting and indicated the SDR had been sleeping. I cannot repeat this for some reason.
 
I understand that a “Start Menu” should come up at some stage and that I need to type in ‘cmd’ to view my IP addresses.
 
Can anyone help with the above.

You need a 100dB preamp, probably. Then maybe you will believe you have too much gain?

Seriously, tune to some empty spectrum area with one constant signal NOT in the GPS/GNSS frequencies. Run the gain way down, zero, -100 whatever the lowest it allows may be. Then slowly run gain upwards. At first the signal will climb but the noise floor will stay more or less constant. Eventually the noise floor will start increasing. STOP THERE. If you have good enough eyes to maximize the difference between the signal level and the noise floor run up until that difference stops increasing. STOP THERE. You may want to back off one step to maximize dynamic range at the expense of a dB or two noise figure.

Note that GPS and GNSS are spread spectrum systems. As such they are also anti-jamming, by maybe 50 dB give or take in the case of GPS. Noise is basically a form of jamming. With the right spectrum analyzer settings you can see the spectra you wish to work with. With nice quick 32k bins over 10 MHz - not so much.

Basically an R820T(2) does NOT like to run at maximum gain settings. It's vast overkill and grossly distorts signals. With ONE direct sequence spread spectrum signal or one FM signal as in a shield room test configuration this should not matter. But, 1575.42 MHz is a VERY busy signal. The other pertinent frequencies are also busy with multiple DSSS signals from the multitude of navigational satellites up there. Excessive gain will vastly increase the interference between the various signals due to intermodulation/crossmodulation effects. Too much gain is as poisonous as too little gain.

I wonder if anyone has attempted to use the Airspy R2 with GNSS-SDR from https://gnss-sdr.org ? Any experiences to share ?

My experimental setup includes a Leica AT503 and some meters of RG58 cable. The airspy is interfaced with OSMOSDR_SIGNAL_SOURCE and I run the latest GNSS-SDR and friends compiled from source on an Ubuntu16 system. Everything runs well, the device is addressed, the bias-t powers the antenna LNA and there are no complains; however there is no lock. Static vs Dynamic Noise Floor in Frequency Scanner plugin

Hi all,

The Frequency Scanner configuration screen offers the possibility to select Static Noise Floor or Dynamic Noise Floor. 



I wonder what the exact difference is between the two. When I select Dynamic Noise Floor the noise floor drops almost completely. It seems the sensitivity of the SDR drops too but I may be wrong about that.

Can someone please shed some light here? Many thanks in advance.

What kernel are you using? Copy the output of this command: uname -a
In any case, you should be using one of the older 3.10.* branches to get proper USB performance until they fix the new kernels.

What kernel are you using? Copy the output of this command: uname -a
In any case, you should be using one of the older 3.10.* branches to get proper USB performance until they fix the new kernels.

Just an update.
Received my AAA1 yesterday for me to play with next week (got a whole week off at last).
This coupled with the fact I get to play with the Wellbrook loops as well.

My AAA1 will more than likely be a double loop side-by-side with a 2 inch air gap between them.
Wanted to make a copper loop but don't have the ability (tool wise) for such a task (this was due to my next project a 3D printed rotator and remote tuner for the cap)

Also I will have time to track down some nasty noise in the house somewhere, I think it is the power over Ethernet adaptors I have but they are being removed next week.

In Device Manager, right-click the BIDI device, and select
UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE, then
BROWSE ON MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVER SOFTWARE, then
LET ME PICK FROM A LIST...., then select
WINUSB DEVICE (MICROSOFT). then let it install.

If WINUSB is not showing, you may need to download the driver from airspy.com and point to that file.

You may also need to reset the device before the device will re-load that driver. (unplug and replug)

That should let it work with SDR# and show as a WINUSB device in Device Manager.

me install anything for a driver. When I step though the browse to where
the Windows compatibility download was placed I don't see/am not offered
either the .inf or .cat files.

Maybe I'm looking for the wrong driver file. Which file exactly is the
driver? Is it the .dll download? or the .inf or .cat?

Those few moments of static that correlated with having the antenna
connection to the HF+ were tantalizing. Like to get that back!
