my new Airspy HF+

Good evening all,

I recently received my Airspy HF+ purchased from AirspayUSA and have been following along with the discussions for several weeks.

Received with V1.0.0 firmware, followed directions updated to v1.5 without issue. Am considering the R3 bypass mod but waiting for more objective reviews.

So far I am quite impressed.

I have put my Airspy HF+ in a larger case. I didn't removed from the very nice machined case but mounted the whole within and used SMA to BNC adapter on the back panel. SMA's are OK but I much prefer BNC or type N for connection into my antennas.  Also used was a Neutrick NAUSBW passthrough so that I can put the USB connector on the back panel as well. A couple of pictures attached. The case is a Hammond 1455L1601 case

Hi, kind of similar phenomena appears with SDR# 1653. After starting SDR#, select FCDPP, start radio, stop radio, select AirspyHF, start radio. Frequency displayed on top does not match the frequency on Spectrum Analyzer screen. The issue can be bypassed by stopping SDR#, overwriting the current SDRSHARP.exe.Config file by the one  from the original download and starting SDR# again. Didn't test other SDR# versions, not bothered either because I know how to solve.

In the software, has any kind of frequency or clock correction been entered, or any offset?  Are the center frequency and demod frequency the same?  Is there an option to invert the I/Q samples?

From the change log:

Note that the gain of the Preamp is compensated in the gain chain, so no level
change should be expected.

After touring through the other thread and a changelog, I still cannot see an answer to my question.
I am really sorry for giving you such a hard time and making you tired.
But could you tell me if this is a preamp control ? Or point me to a link with a clear explanation ?

Hi all !
I need some help regarding the HF manual gain control.
It seems that the "HF Preamp" setting gets totally ignored; no signal difference by any amount of db (I think it should be +6db).
As a side note, I can see the attenuation from 0 to 6db using the "HF ATT" control.
This is the case for all HF bands.
I do the test with my own signal generator and of course with "HF AGC" off so I know I am not saturating anything.

I have tried the latest firmware (airspy-hf-flash-20180224.zip ) with SDR# 1653.
Can anyone test and let me know if this is just a bug or a faulty unit ?

I feel that "Aha!" moment coming. The input marked V is for FM and VHF. The input marked H is for HF.

First thing I did was to use the same cables  on a known receiver and the results were same as the spec for the receiver. So the cables were eliminated as a source of the problem.

Stupid question - When using either VHF or HF input is it recommended to keep the unused input connected ?

Hi Everyone

I am trying to use the Airspy HF+ to demodulate WFM signals in the USA. The eventual goal is to also decode HD FM signals using the Airspy HF+ with the help of the NRSC-5 standard . I successfully built the user mode driver and was able to receive FM signals using the VHF port on the HF+. I am curious to know if anyone else here has measured the sensitivity of the HF+. I have been using SDR# to receive WFM and I notice that around -105 dbM the SNR becomes very low .  Inside the driver the number of bits occupied by the IQ signal is around 7 at around -85 dbM. I expected the sensitivity of the HF+ to be better than what I am observing. Does anyone else have recommendations / measurements on the sensitivity aspect of the HF+

Is there a way that I can control the preamp gain and the AGC in the user space driver for VHF signals?

That would be great.

My use case is monitoring a wide spectrum for signals appearing at an unknown time or frequency, then when they appear trying to tune to them, but using a wide spectrum it is hard to have much accuracy (often out by a bin or two). This then means zooming or changing the spectrum size to tune more accurately by which time the signal is often gone. If it were possible to simply select a peak and tune straight to it then that would be great (but I guess this would be limited by the resolution of the FFT bins, which is fine and understandable).
