mono recording AF files
John
Hello Group,
I would like to know how the SDR# software is instructed to record in mono, as against stereo. It seems a total waste of time recording in stereo :) Is the mono setting completely reliant on the type/brand of soundcard, or is there a setting in the config file? 73 John

Speaking of C++ vs C#, I admit one needs to be more than "simple developer level" at C++ to write good performing C# code. Now to write faster code in C# that is also better looking is somewhat of an art. Many people seem to believe that simply using C++ or an optimised math library such as IPP, BLAS and LAPACK will cure all their performance problems. It is really no surprise C++ can outperform .NET. Unfortunately, nobody seems to be able to write efficiently in C++ either.

Time for a simple demonstration of how poorly performing .NET vs C++ really is. The videos linked below show a single core Atom N270 at a 1.6GHz clock. Both applications are performing a mono WFM demod from the same IQ recording at 2 MSPS rate. We regularly use this CPU as our baseline benchmark because it is such an awful cpu without OOO execution. It does however support up to SSSE4 (not used in SDR#!). Note which application produces the most coherent audio. Note which application has the lowest latency. Note which one is not written in C++ or using IPP. PS. When I'm waving my fingers while playing with SDR Console V2, I've clicked to tune to another frequency. I'm waiting for something to happen due to the insane latency involved http://sdrsharp.com/downloads/1.mp4 http://sdrsharp.com/downloads/2.mp4 Simon, maybe it's time you finally enjoy the cleverness of C#? We can help. Regards, The SDR# Dev Team

Subject: RTLsdr with HDSDR & SDRSHARP Hi folks
I just got a RTL 820T cannot get it to work with
HDSDR or SDRSHARP. Since I use window XP I downloaded zadig_xp_ V2.0.1 160
7Z to installed the RTL driver. It was installed successfully
WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385) then I went to options picked bulking interface 0
as suggested.
I also installed for HDSDR the EXtio
RTl.dll I use a 4 ports hub with its own power. When I start HDSDR
the EXtio is illuminated & select RTL EXtio.dll file I get sound but i
have to push the slider WAY UP. There is also an icon saying RF +30.If i raise
the slider the HDSDR software freezes. I guess the RTL does not have a soundcard
because none shows up but the computer one. when soundcard icon is
selected????
One more thing when I double click On the
Illuminated EXtio a window called RTL SETTINGS comes up & read as
follows DIRECT SAMPLING DISABLED,SAMPLE RATE 0.25Msp PLL LOCKED, TUNER AGC,RTL
AGC,OFFSET TUNING NOT CLICKED
Now for SDRsharp
I select CONFIGURE & get RTLsdr/TCP which I
select Then I click play a window comes up & reads as
follow:
" no connections could be made because the target
actively refused it 127.0.0.1 1234 " Now I assume
that 1234 are the ports of the hub I am using.???
Also if I click on CONFIGURE a window comes up
& says : RTL-TCP Settings
Host
: 127.0.0/1
PORTS 1234
sample rate 2.048 MSPS
RTL AGC NOT indicated
RF gain OFF
Now I wonder if i should select ONLY the port where
the RTL is plugged in??? or does it matter since it is a HUB???
BTW I use also a Funcube dongle Pro with HDSDR
& SDRSHARP with no problems.
Your help will be very much appreciated thank
you!!!!

IMO Visual Studio 2010 is an excellent product, compared to the Express flavor it lets you do Dialog design edit icons and other ‘bits’ as well as generate very highly optimized code.
I’m trying to learn the built-in XML Schema editor…
It’s expensive, but well worth the money IMO.

Re: [SDRSharp] Re: Computer Requirements to run SDR#
ok, I know this is off topic, but, for my education, if I use C++ then the I have practically no experience with Visual C++ of Micro$oft (whose only "Visual" attribute is in the name only...), so cannot tell you if it allows, at least in its latest release, to write a C++ program that does not make use of .NET What I use is the Embarcadero RAD Studio C++ Builder, a very nice and really visual development environment. It allows you to avoid completely the .NET infrastructure, if you so choose. --

I use Visual Studio C++ and MFC - I try to keep things simple. You can use .Net if you want to, but for engineering I don't see the need (yet). I like to keep low down and close to the hardware, whether SDR radio or monitor. Some people dislike MFC but I'm happy with it - a simple library for a simple programmer. One very easy way to chew up the CPU is being over-enthusiastic with the

graphics. Most SDR programs use GDI+ which itself does not support hardware acceleration. For lower-powered computers I set the SmoothingMode http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms535815(v=vs.85).as px to either high quality or high speed, this can make a very big difference. Adjusting the settings of Graphics http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms534453(v=vs.85).as px is worth investigating, if anyone who programs SDR# is interested I can pass on my log/high power CPU suggestions for this. Re: [SDRSharp] FUNcube Dongle Pro+ / SDR# v1.1.0.0.1161 / WXtoIMG version 2.10.11 - volume change
Roberto Rizzardi <robertorizzardi@...>
If you have Win XP as the operating system, as I presume, in the
audio section of SDR # select in the Output MME Microsoft Sound
Mapper or your sound card and the Gain to 50-60%, while in the
Recording task of the audio control of your pc you must select
Stereo Mix.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Open WXtoImg and, after selecting your sound card in Recording Options, click on the Manual Test in the Record task. Moving the cursor in Stereo Mix you will see increase or decrease the volume in WXtoImg and up to 50-55% is sufficient. Now you can close the test and try to get a pass with these settings. Roby
