Dear Friends
It’s difficult to know how to feel today, following the ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. On the one hand, we support the end of Israel’s disproportionate attack against a besieged population. On the other hand, it’s clear to us that it’s only a matter of time until the next Israeli assault on Gaza. The images of this latest harrowing assault remain etched in our hearts and minds, as do the names and faces of those who lost their lives, among them innocent bystanders including children and women.
They are not “collateral damage” – each and every one of them was a world unto themselves.
As always during these difficult times, we have received numerous requests for urgent assistance from Gaza. These past few days, we’ve been sent long lists of medication and medical equipment that are in critical shortage in Gaza, and we’re now arranging an urgent delivery of equipment which we plan to send later this week.

We know this is a drop in the ocean. But in the face of such suffering, we believe it’s our duty to help. The health care system in Gaza has been on the brink of collapse for years – this is the inevitable result of Israel’s prolonged blockade on Gaza and its two million residents. For years, basic medical services and medication have been inaccessible in Gaza. In “routine” times, our day-to-day involves fighting the blockade, attempting to get patients out of Gaza for treatment, and assisting the local health care system which is in perpetual crisis.
Each Israeli assault worsens the already intolerable conditions in Gaza. In such difficult times, we believe we must do everything we can to help the local health care system, which was only further weakened by the recent deadly attack. And we know it’s not enough.
Urgent assistance to the Gazan health care system
Sincerely,
