Educational tour about the Nakba in the city of Al-lydd/Lod  On the anniversary of the Massacre and the occupation of Lod in July 1948, Zochrot invites you to join us for a tour to al-Lydd to learn about the Nakba and the ongoing Nakba, about accountability and redress. Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 5pm-8pm. In this tour we will explore the city and learn about its glorious past. We will pass several sites and focus on the brutal occupation of the city in 1948, we will hear about the looting of houses and property, the massacre and the expulsion, about how the expelled were prevented from returning and how the few who survived that ethnic cleansing were confined in a “Ghetto”. We will hear about processes of Judaization, including the resettlement of Jewish immigrants in Palestinian houses on the one hand and the destruction of the city’s Arab-Palestinian identity on the other. We will expose the extent of lingering trauma in the Palestinian consciousness in the context of the Nakba in general and in particular in al-Lydd. We will meet activists from this community to try to understand the consequences of those ongoing Nakba processes  for the city’s populace and reality today. The tour will start at Sabil Subeih (near Ha-shoter square, the corner of Hashmonaim St & Tzahal Blvd), we will walk through the main road of the old town, the Ghetto compound, the great mosque, saint George church, Khan al-Hiluw and the Dahmash mosque, where Israeli forces massacred dozens of the city’s residents in 1948.    Meeting point and start of the tour at Sabil Subeih (Ha- Hashmonaim st. near Ha-Shoter square), at 17:00 A bus to the tour will leave Tel Aviv at 16:00 from Lewinsky garden 31 Ha-gdud Ha-ivri St. Please sign up here to participate and the ensure your seat on the bus. "There is little recognition of the right of return, which is of course an internationally recognized right, but it’s a non-starter for most Israelis, even on the left.”   Zochrot’s Beitarie welcomes the growing recognition of the Nakba across much of the left in Israel, but argues that simply recognizing the historical facts is not enough. “I see a lot of important steps in many of these organizations, and a lot more willingness to acknowledge the facts, but much less willingness to acknowledge responsibility and consider what it means for a future solution,” she says.   The enduring reluctance, even on the Israeli left, to entertain the notion of Palestinian refugees returning to their lands is easy enough to explain: whereas simply acknowledging the injustices perpetrated in 1948 does not necessarily threaten the privileges guaranteed to Israeli Jews by even the most liberal conceptions of Zionism, the return of refugees would mean relinquishing them. It remains to be seen which of these two positions the majority of the Israeli left — from the grassroots to the Knesset — will adopt, and it is not a choice they can avoid making as recognition of the Nakba continues to grow.   “We’re in a very deep political crisis that has been building up for more than 20 years, since the collapse of Oslo,” says Beitarie. “There is a search for answers and solutions, part of which means looking at the roots of the so-called conflict. And once you start looking for answers, the Nakba is everywhere.” Read the full article by +972 Magazine  Share Tweet Forward בדיגיטל של עיריית תל-אביב-יפו כתבו שהם יכלו "לכתוב פוסט מאוד מפורט על נפגשות בכפר שלם nifgashot - על ערכי הרב תרבותיות, פמיניזם וחיבור בין אמנות לקהילה," אבל במקום זה נתנו "לטיזר המושלם לעשות את העבודה." והוא אכן עושה את העבודה, כי אין כמו ריקודים על חורבות חייהם של אלפי אנשים כי להבהיר איך עיריית תל אביב מבינה רב תרבותיות ופמיניזם... 7810איש ואישה חיו בכפר סלמה עד 1948. היו להם להקות מוזיקה (בהן להקת חתונות מפורסמת בתמונה שמימין), מועדוני ספורט, בתי קפה, בתי ספר, תוצרת חקלאית שנמכרה ברחבי המחוז וחיי מסחר משגשגים. תושבי סלמה הפכו לפליטים, בתיהם ואדמותיהם הופקעו ורכושם נבזז. גם הפטיפון שאיתו מצולמים הלוחמים הציונים בתמונה של בנו רותנברג משמאל. המסגד וקבר סלמה אבו האשם המקודש הפכו למועדון נוער. בית הקברות נהרס ועל גופות ותיקי סלמה הוצב גן שעשועים. השלטון הישראלי מיהר לשכן יהודים בבתים הריקים, אך מרגע שהוצב המכשול בפני שיבת הפליטים, הוזנחו התשתיות... והתושבים. תושבי כפר שלם היהודים, רובם מהגרים מתימן, אירן וכורדיסטן, סבלו לאורך שנים מאפלייה והזנחה מכוונת מצד עיריית תל אביב הרב תרבותית. ב־1982 נורה למוות תושב השכונה שמעון יהושע ז"ל, כשנאבק נגד פינויו. מאז פינתה העירייה מאות משפחות מכפר שלם ללא פיצוי ראוי. כ־300 משפחות מתגוררות כיום במתחמים המיועדים להריסה ועשרות תושבים עומדים בפני פינוי מיידי בשל בניית הרכבת הקלה. מעניין מה דעתם על עיריית תל אביב ויחסי אמנות-קהילה... אין שום דבר פמיניסטי בגירוש, ביזה והרג. אין שום דבר רב תרבותי בניצול אוכלוסיות מוחלשות ובדחיקתן לטובת עשירים ונדל"ניסטים. אבל זה הסיפור של תל אביב. מראשיתה.   עוד לא מאוחר לקחת אחריות ולתקן.   רוצות להכיר את סלמה?
