Better yet - are you still in the Milwaukee area? If so, which club are you with?

Let's give a presentation to the club before the end of the year!

Clint:

Have you ever videoed your presentation so those of us not near the presentation point can see it? With the poor band conditions, I have three more hams in our club who want me to give a demonstration. One is really chomping at the bit.

Scott Manley did a great video showing hobbyist SDR reception of the probe, and its doppler until the point that it stopped sending. From the doppler, it looks like it tumbled while still firing, was firing upside down, and that it hit the ground when the signal was lost and it was still expected to be above the surface.

Re: Antenna help

No effect at all. But the top extendable rod and top part are plastic. The aluminum legs are over a foot away from my antenna. I never gave that a thought. I do own a heavy duty tripos that is all metal. I should try it. But look for plastic upper portion in a tripod.

Have you measured the affect the metal in the tripod might have on the antenna tuning?

Greg: Here are two pics. Since the camera tripod has a 1/4"-20 thread to mount the camera, it is easy to tighten this part to the tripod. I made mine out of 1/2" acrylic that I had laying around the shop. All that is needed is a saw, a #7 drill and a 1/4"-20 tap.

Previous to this, I used a cheap Shooting Stick, which can be pushed into grass, but the tripod can also be used on hard surfaces.

Clint Bradford, K6LCS gave me the idea in his website work-sat.com.

I assume that you are using an Arrow 2 antenna??? An easy fix for this is to find a used camera tripod. $10 max on Craig's List. There is a 1/4-20 screw on top to hold the camera. I have made a plastic "Y" that mounts to the screw and supports the antenna boom, so it is no longer heavy. This also keeps the antenna steady. Let me know when you get the tripod and I will make you the "Y" and mail it to you.  Brad Smith KC9UQR
