The frequencies at work-sat.com are there for you ... You can simply be in VFO mode for both A and B.

Hi Brad,
Have not talked with you in a while. I need to contact someone who may have the Kenwood TH-D72A to walk me through the process of setting up the HT for the SATS.
Having some difficulty and need someone that has the same model so we can discuss via e-mail or phone call.

All that is needed is an HT capable of receiving 2 meters and a rubber duck antenna. Then you need an interface to decode the signal. Some people do this on a computer and others do this on their cell phone, with an app. I use SSTV app on my iPhone. I’m sure Android has an equal app.

Of course, if you have a better 2 meter antenna, your image will be better. Try it. It is fun.

I down loaded the Robut36, but then it asked me to allow Robut36 to
access photos, media, and files on my devise. Do I really want to do that?

That is for SSTV reception. Very few opportunities that past couple of years for 2m FM voice contacts. Watch ARISS and ARRL for possible projects.

Surprising, especially with a cargo mission heading its way to the ISS this week. BUT ...

Russian cosmonauts are expected to activate Slow Scan Television (SSTV) image transmissions on 145.800 MHz FM from the International Space Station on Wednesday to Friday, December 4, 5 and 6.

This is the schedule for the planned activation of the MAI-75 SSTV activity from the ISS.

• Dec 4: On - 12:00 GMT, Off - 16:50 GMT
• Dec 5: On - 11:25 GMT, Off - 17:15 GMT
• Dec 6: On - 10:20 GMT, Off - 16:40 GMT

Transmissions will be sent on 145.800 MHz FM in the SSTV mode PD-120. Once received, images can be posted and viewed by the public at http://www.spaceflightsoftware.com/ARISS_SSTV/index.php

ISS SSTV uses a Kenwood TM D710E transceiver which is part of the amateur radio station located in the Russian ISS Service Module.

From the tutorial: The one “absolute” for success is to open up your SQuelch. We
are talking about “weak signals” from hundreds of miles away - so don’t expect
the satellites to be strong enough to break squelch like your local repeater does.
Sure, it’s a little noisy - but that’s part of the process: That noise is an aid in
locating the satellites! When the frequency starts exhibiting quieting, that’s a sign
that you are capturing the satellites’ signals.

Again, from the tutorial: Improve your HT’s stock antenna (most are rated at
NEGATIVE 6db - or worse!). The Smiley 270A is a good performer, and is
available in Male SMA, Female SMA, and Male BNC models. But for best success,
you need more GAIN, so using an Arrow Satellite Antenna or Elk Log Periodic is
much better. If you prefer to home-brew your antennas, go to the work-sat.com Web
site’s ANTENNAS page for construction article links: You can get in to the world of
high gain operations for as little as $15!

The Doppler phenomenon isn't "dependent" on whether a frequency is 
transmitted or received. It is "frequency-dependent." It is on the 440mHz side 
of life where we should compensate for Doppler. It is the 440 side where there 
could be as much as +/- 10kHz deviation in an FM satellite's frequency. So whether
that is SO-50's downlink - or AO-91 or '92's uplinks - it is the 440 frequency for which
we need to compensate. The frequency chart at work-sat.com takes this in to consideration
for you.

Yes - I know of many who are successfully working AO-91 and AO-92 with stock or improved 
antennas on their HTs. A little more finesse is required - but it is being accomplished!

From the tutorial: If using a whip antenna, don’t hold it upright. Held in a vertical position,
your transmitted signal is hitting land-based receivers. Most of our satellites are not land-
based (grin). You need to tilt your HT’s antenna about the same amount as the satellites'
ELEVATION. Get it perpendicular to the orbit’s path! You will quickly get the hang of it -
and hear the difference. Again, you will have much better results with a modest beam or
Yagi antenna ...

From every of the 100+ presentation I have made, and from the tutorial: Ideally, we
should be working the FM voice satellites in full-duplex mode, where we can
simultaneously listen to the downlink as we are transmitting. Although this method is
preferred, it is not mandatory: Carefully monitor the downlink, and wait for a break
in the conversations to key your mic and announce yourself ...

There are Smartphone apps that will tell you your grid square. If you are home, a lookup
of your own callsign on QRZ.com has it for you. And on work-sat.com on the SHACK AIDS 
page is a link to a grid square locator!

WIMO xpol antennas for satellite use

I recently purchased the 2 meter and 70 cm X-Quad antennas from WIMO.
They can run horizontal or vertical, or circular with a phasing cable.
With switching, I can select any one of the three polarities from my shack.
Circular will be used for the satellites.

I am having some issues with very poor SWR on the 70 cm version.
I haven't started testing the 2 meter version.
The specs don't list the resonant frequency nor the bandwidth.
I asked WIMO about this and they didn't have any information on those specifications.

I'm hoping to be able to use the UHF from 430 MHz to 440 MHz.

Does anyone have any experience tuning these antennas?
With what results?

Good Morning.
Yesterday I finished doing the K0PIR camera mount mod. Need a lock washer.
But was able just now to hear some signals off the just completed AO91 pass over WV.
I couldn’t make out any calls but at least I know it works <grin>
The setup is as follows
Elk duoband mounted on a camera tripod sitting in front of my recliner in the living room.
Receiving on a RSP2 using console 3.0— ver.
I have the GT3-TP sitting here but it’s going to be a while until I get the receiving bit down pat.

Any suggestions, hints and yes criticism is welcome.
I have to do some double checking making sure I have everything right.

Having the spectrum scope on the rsp2 is so helpful. Watching the signals pop out of the noise is cool!

Present plans are first try to hear something, no joy so far. Then proceed to programming the radio.
I have a diamond duplexer that I can use when I figure out how to connect it.
Likewise, I have 2 mfj 1708 t/r switches, one the SDR version and one generic version. Another research project so I don’t blow up the rsp2 which is a fun and very good radio.

So that is where I’m at. No timeframe, just enjoying. It will be nice when I start hearing things.

Thanks again , any comments/suggestions and that includes criticism. After 64 years of hamming and 79 years of life, the skin is pretty thick although it doesn’t look it. hi hi
