ISS packet should be back up tonight.

It is turned OFF when a mission is approaching or leaving, and
during EVAs.

What Smartphone are you using - or what computer Operating System are you using?

What is your Zip Code?

Before I give up without starting:
I need ONE tracking program for the says. To me, none of them are easy to use. What sats should I track for fm voice. Just a couple for me to start with.

Re: Inexpensive Base Station: Will This Work?

You can HEAR AO-91, AO-92 and the ISS Packet and SSTV ...

If the passes are on that side of the house.

Got an HT? An HT with modest home-brew antenna improvement will
be more satisfying!

Inexpensive Base Station: Will This Work?

Kent K5KNT

Hi all,

I'm a new member to the group and it has been a long time since I worked the sats. The last time was just over 11 years ago. At the time, I was using my mobile rig, an Icom IC-2720H with an 18-inch whip antenna. I began having issues with the radio powering off at intermittent times so I pulled it from my car and sent it to a repair shop. They sent it back and said they couldn't find anything wrong with the radio. I lost interest in the hobby and never bothered to reinstall the radio. Now, two moves and two different states later I've decided to give it a try again.

I will be moving to a different house sometime this summer/fall so I'd rather not bother with an outside antenna at this time. I'm wondering if I could use the 18-inch whip indoors (near a window) with the Icom and get any results.  What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Kent, K5KNT

Clint,

That is quite a footprint for both AO-92 and SO-50. Maybe some day I will
be able to contact you on one of those SATS here from S.E. Michigan.

Clint, Thanks for posting both the original 'idea' and the article.

It was on my mind to encourage a few newer hams to take some time right now to add resources to their stations and a solid power supply was on the list.

The 30A continuous output of the 1235M and $145 shipped seems to make it the deal of the day.

Clint,
I'm not where I can look at the ARRL archives.  Was that one of the switching power supplies that the ARRL labs examined and reviewed years back?

I would certainly try AO-91 and AO-92!

AO-91 is always in UHF UP - VHF DOWN mode ... '92 switches to 1.2gHZ UP - VHF DOWN
for a day a week ...

Re: New member and a couple questions

Do NOT use that program's frequencies ... stick with the proven chart on the
front page at work-sat.com ...
