Arrow Antenna Mod

Clint Bradford

From email ...

There are a lot of sites that provide valuable information on working the satellites.
I'd like to acknowledge one in particular.

I found it rather awkward to hold the Arrow antenna using the supplied foam grip.
While the foam made it somewhat comfortable in your hand, you still had to rotate
your wrist at an uncomfortable angle to point the antenna.  I stumbled across Clint
Bradford's site, K6LCS.  I learned a LOT from this site:
www.Work-Sat.com

In particular, his Arrow antenna modification is perfect for solving that uncomfortable
wrist position!  Take a look at his mod at:

Re: Upcoming Satellite Presentations

Clint Bradford

I haven't presented a "generic" show and recorded it ... EACH show is UNIQUE to
the audience - with trivia questions and factoids for each group ... so unless a viewer
is in the area at which the talk is given, they'll be bored for several minutes ...

There's a partial video floating 'round on YouTube from the 2017 Palm Springs HamFest -
but it is incomplete and edited ...

But, again, I can bring it to your club! Presenting in San Diego, Washington state, and
Indiana in the next couple of weeks!

What? A LOCAL presentation??? NO frequent flyer miles involved???

(grin)

Just working on shows for Maple Valley, Washington, Indianapolis, Indiana, and
San Diego ... YES - I'd love to present it to this group, Ken!

Privately email me at clintbradford AT mac.com - let's do it!

Clint,

Just wondering if you still do club presentations here in the Inland Empire? I’ve always enjoyed your HAMSAT demos. There’s a new club here in the Claremont area that is looking for speakers from time to time. GREAT bunch of enthusiastic folks!

Re: Comms Lost with Indian Lunar Project

Clint Bradford

We have not been able to establish communication with the #VikramLander; the orbiter is doing very well - there are 8 instruments in the orbiter and each one is doing exactly what it is meant to do;

Our next priority is #Gaganyaan mission

Better yet - are you still in the Milwaukee area? If so, which club are you with?

Let's give a presentation to the club before the end of the year!

Clint:

Have you ever videoed your presentation so those of us not near the presentation point can see it? With the poor band conditions, I have three more hams in our club who want me to give a demonstration. One is really chomping at the bit.

Scott Manley did a great video showing hobbyist SDR reception of the probe, and its doppler until the point that it stopped sending. From the doppler, it looks like it tumbled while still firing, was firing upside down, and that it hit the ground when the signal was lost and it was still expected to be above the surface.

Re: Antenna help

Brad Smith

No effect at all. But the top extendable rod and top part are plastic. The aluminum legs are over a foot away from my antenna. I never gave that a thought. I do own a heavy duty tripos that is all metal. I should try it. But look for plastic upper portion in a tripod.

Have you measured the affect the metal in the tripod might have on the antenna tuning?
