Re: Why Doppler Correction when there's AFC?
pg321@...
Hi Clint , you could be talking about 2 different things there ?
1- is the deviation definition , is that FM "voice bandwidth" deviation and not frequency deviation (the carrier) . 2- AFC which is a good idea , as i never had thought about that at all , similar to a synchronous detector in a AM shortwave radio , i can say if implemented correctly AM sync sure does work , reliably up to 10Khz away from the carrier +/- . Paul . ps- yet to try to key up 91 , so far the passes have been noise-y , not sure if its power-line noise on that frequency or a weaker signal yet .

Why Doppler Correction when there's AFC?
Clint Bradford
An interesting inquiry: AO-91 has Automatic Frequency Control built into it. So why is it recommended to adjust the Uplink frequency for Doppler? Lab testing of '91 "corrected" to +/- 8.5kHz deviation in the uplink. Hmmm ... Keep working it, and document your signal reports! Clint

Re: AO-91 Fully Commissioned
Clint Bradford
Typo corrected - thanks!
N8HM reports: It (AO-91) needs 2 seconds of TX with a 67 Hz tone to activate the transponder. After that, it’ll turn off after not hearing the tone for a minute. If everyone uses a 67 Hz tone, it’ll just stay on ...

Hi Clint,
Happy Thanksgiving!
Just a heads up: your PDF with frequencies has the wrong ‘Alpha’ for AO-91.
Is there a required kick start for AO-91 like on SO-50? I thought I read there was one.
Thanks!
Best regards, Fred N7FMH

Do NOT Use Trasponder on AO-91
Clint Bradford
Tentatively ... DO NOT USE THE FM REPEATER YET ... I was saddened to hear some West Coast hams using the FM voice transponder today ... Improper protocol ("CQ CQ ... ") - but the bird has NOT officially been commissioned for transponder use yet. Responsible hams are awaiting official "GO!" announcement for the control team. Clint

Spectacular.
I have heard the pre-recorded female voice the past two days ... full-quieting on a non-sat setup: just a modest mobile antenna on my car while commuting. Clint

AO-91 - Fox-1B Successfully Deployed
Clint Bradford
AO-91 was successfully deployed this morning - but DO NOT key up on its FM Voice uplink frequency yet! It is emitting expected telemetry - and teams are working on getting it "tuned up" for use as out newest FM Voice bird SOON! Even if you do hear voice traffic, WAIT until you read an AMSAT-NA citation / post stating it is up and available. More info - and how to receive and decode and assist the ground during this period at ... https://amsat-uk.org/2017/11/04/getting-ready-for-radfxsat-fox-1b/
