Ok! Cool. Just want to make sure it wasn't an impostor. Somebody locally was sending SSTV on 145.95 after I received this one and I just wanted to make sure!
I've been keeping the home radio tuned to 145.95 with the squelch all the way open and MMSSTV up so I get every possible chance. I auto captured 3 ARISSAT/RADIOSKAF images last night. Two had the RS01S idents the other was missing it. All about about a Q3 copy and the times were 8 August 0828Z, 1006Z and 1143Z. Using Audacity to view the wav file that Scanner Recorder creates, I roughly calculated the bird's or spin rate at around 10 RPM give or take 1 but that's just from using the time marks of Audacity and marking the peaks and troughs of the audio waveform (which have a repetive period) and counting the number of those over so many seconds. I had 3 in 18 seconds so that's 1 roll in 6 seconds or 10 in 60s. I'd like to see the experts do the real math and tell me if I'm close or not. I'll continue to work out the roll rates over time and see if they change. I'm limited in my mathematical ability but I figure that charting rolls rates would be an interesting and worthwhile project. I switch to a non-circularly polarized antenna for this purpose. For SSTV/voice imaging (and APRS with the ISS (via UISS software) I'm normally using a Turnstile and 2m preamp. Anyone come up with a roll rateer figure by some other means? I just thought that the sound file method with Audacity was an obvious method with less math involved. I agree that this is way too cool. I wasn't around for Sputnik and I can't imagine what it was like in those simpler times. Since I also do astronomy, this is the best of both worlds! The Perseids are peaking August 12 and the ISS may show up in the images with some meteor trails to go with. While ARRISAT is perhaps too small to visually see, it should show up in CCD images. It's been too humid and hot to and hazy to do any imaging this summer but I'h hoping that it cools down in the next few days, at least for the Perseids. 73, Robert, VA3ROM http://my.tbyatel.net/va3rom

Forrest, I don't quite understand the "just making static" quote. On any transceiver I've had, the squelch is either on or off. I have received 3 pictures now on 3 different passes by setting my levels using the white noise with the squelch off, and then turning the squelch just below where it cuts off the signal. Used the transceiver volume control to set the level into MMSSTV. Or you could use the computer volume control to set the level.

Thanks Robert. Coincidentally, last night I had tried to get the antoninoporcino one to work, with no luck. I then found the Scanner Recorder link after some Goggling, and downloaded it. It was late, so I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Glad to hear it is a winner! Will give it a try tomorrow on the next passes. I managed to receive two more pictures this morning on two different passes. One was a complete picture, almost as good as my first one yesterday. The other one was a partial picture, bird must have gone LOS before it finished. Both were fairly decent, but a little noisy. They were the same picture that I got yesterday. Hoping for some variety, like a earth view or something.

I would recommend you use line in. Mike in has a lot of gain that you don't need. I set my outp[ut level wit no signal by turning the squelch off, and set receiver output level so that the white noise makes the MMSSTV receive level indicator go about half scale. Then set the squelch just below where it cuts off the audio. I received two more pictures this morning, again while I was asleep, so I don't know just where the level was during receive. But it seems to work out pretty good for my setup, which is very similar to yours except for different radio and antenna.

I can turn the hook up to my H.T. I will try that to. I thought it would be
easyr this way to set up the software being as i dont have a laptop and my desk
top well is hard to move outside the diemound is up 50 feet on the tower I
would not even waht to try and line the diemound up its a 17 feet long

recieving SSTV from ARISSat-1

I always wanted to try SSTV. So here is a good
chance.
I don't have a fancy recieve interface, what I am
using is a Icom IC28H with a diemound 510 dualbander feed by RG8 ant 50
ft.
I am using AMSAT perdict to track ARISSat-1. and
MMSSTV software to recieve SSTV . LIke I said my "homebrew" recieve interface is
a cable that goes from the speacker out in the back of the radio to the line in
on my sound card. I also can put a small mic next to the speacker I have pluged
into the back of my IC28H that goes to the line in on my sound card. Some
web sites say use the line in on the sound card others say to use the mic
in, is there really a diffrence? As long as my PC can "hear" my radio I think I
am good. thoughts? Does any body know
if there is a way I can test the way I set things up "before" the next
pass? That was I would know things were working. I did look in HRD and I dont
see ARISSat-1, Thanks for the tip Les.

Finally received two images from ARISSat-1 ...Outstanding! Although grounds for divorce in some states (grin), we ARE talking about a weak signal from 2-500 out there ... How about just turning the volume down - but keeping SQ open!... do I really need the squelch turned on or do I really need it to make noise all nite? Clint
