Re: Logging during activations
Have you ever tried using a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone/iPad when using HamLog? It might make entry easier/faster. One more thing to carry with you, but they’re light weight, self-contained power…
I’m about to give WWFF a go and have been thinking about logging too. HamLog with a bluetooth keyboard was going to be my first attempt. Now that I see there’s a WWFF template, that’s all the better! -- Jeff N0̸MII

Hi, welcome to the WWFF-KFF parks program. We encourage people to activate and upload their logs to both POTA and the WWFF-KFF. If you plan to discuss KFF parks as well and also upload your activation logs to KFF then this is the place to be. You can learn more about the program at our website http://wwff-kff.org. You can also find a link to our Facebook group of chasers there and information on log submission. Have a great activation and we hope you will participate in the global WWFF program with us. de KA2LHO.

well, it was a success. My new hamstick mount on my truck worked great! It was nice to just roll up, screw the hamstick in, and then sit inside in the air conditioning and operate... I worked around 40 stations or so, from California to Spain, all on 20m. For some reason I couldn't get my 40m one to tune, not sure what was up with that but it was getting dark and time to set up camp so I knocked off. Thanks everyone who worked me!

Friday afternoon (11th) I'll be in KPP, (KFF-3632) to camp overnight in one of the astronomy sites they've got there. I plan on operating some early in the afternoon, getting there around 3ish. Not sure on bands yet but at least 20m SSB, maybe some CW too. de NJ4Y

With my KX3 I get about 3-4 hrs with a 3 A-H battery at 5W and double that with their 6 A-H version. Won a 12 A-H one at a local hamfest and it seems to run forever though I've not quantified it. My guess is that their life estimates are double what I experience. My criterion for time to recharge is when the KX3 rolls back power due to low DC input. I run CW so SSB might give longer times. I bought BLF-1230A 30 Amp hour battery and have run maybe 15 activations with it and in my opinion I unfortunately undersized the battery for this application. It is -my- opinion Bioenno's 50/50 chart usage data is optimistic. I run the radio with the speech processor on and that draws more power. Bioenno has some usage charts you should look at before you purchase one of these batteries. I stand by my past comments on temperature range of Lithium batteries. 73/44 - Dave wb9own

I've never had an issue with mine due to cold, from here in FL in the 100 deg temps, down to 10 degs sitting in the snow on the rim of Bryce Canyon in Utah. I have a 9ah one, and previously had a 20ah and was very happy with them.

Re: Bioenno Battery performance
Longest I've operated is 3 hrs and that's RX and TX both of
course, and not run out. But, also that's in warm wx and I bet
that helps the run time of the batt.

Hi James, I agree with you. Haven't seen much info on this event. Seems under-promoted to me. Wonder if some of that is due to using Facebook to host the event details? I'd also like to see event details and updates on the KFF website. KFF-0252 can still be activated of course, WWFF seems alive and well every time I've done an activation, and growing slow but steady within the US these past few years. When are you planning to activate? -detrick

Norm,
New member, Jim Kerns/KM4UFN. This event is not getting much press. I, too, read about in the ARRL newsletter. However, the link on the ARRL website is broken returning at 404. Also, there is nothing about this on the wwkff web site. I would like to activate Pelican Island kff-0252 but getting cautious that this event is not real??? Your thoughts. Thanks, jk
