Lloyd,
Pleasure Island is part of the state park. It is the state park that you need to operate from, any part of it. 73, 44 Bob, KA9JAC On 7/8/2019 8:56 PM, Lloyd K3ESE wrote:

Re: Hart-Miller Island KFF-1578 first activation
hey Jess... I see that Hart-Miller State Park includes Pleasure Island. "The western shore of the island offers safe mooring, wading and access to a 3,000-foot sandy beach. Hart-Miller Island State Park also includes Hawk Cove and Pleasure Island, which also provide recreational opportunities and camping. The park is well-known for its abundant migrating bird populations." Pleasure Island is a lot closer than Hart-Miller, maybe kayak close. How to find out if that would fit being inside the boundaries of this state park, for KFF? is it the park, or the specific island?

Sadly, the weather did not cooperate. But I shall remain QRV, and will announce the next attempt ASAP.
Instead, I returned to KFF-1588 to pick up the contact I needed for a full activation. Thanks to all who worked me! I've been unable to load Facebook lately, so was not able to update anything there.

Hart-Miller Island KFF-1578 first activation
I'm planning a trip to activate Hart-Miller Island, KFF-1578 for the first time, this coming Monday, 8 July. I hope to be QRV around 1530Z, and go until 2000Z.
I'll be on QRP CW, on or near 7044, 10114, and 14044. I should be able to self-spot. This is an ATNO for everyone!

That worked out pretty well overall. VA to FL is a very, very easy drive when you camp at a few parks along the way. In the past, I moved up from 5W to 15W and it made a big difference. This time, moving up to 100W seemed to make SSB possible, but still don't seem to be able to pull in the pileups like I hear some folks doing. Got some new overall ideas to try out next time. Full activations (44+ contacts) for 3 parks including one ATNO, 17 contacts at another, and 3 in a park I had activated previously. 171 Qs submitted in total. One park was a bust, no legal access for me, but I know now how to get into it in the future. Sadly, it was another ATNO. 73, 44, -detrick K4IZ

6 parks, 2 have never been activated before, the rest have only 50-200 QSOs. KX3, KXPA100, vertical, and doublet (if space permits). Good for CW and SSB (though won't run SSB at night when it might disturb other campers). Happy to QRS, just ask. 80-10m as condx permit. If you're very close to any of these, can do 2m/440 FM, just let me know so we can arrange a sked. Friday 8pm until Saturday 8am (QRT while sleeping) KFF-4509, GWNF, Virginia Saturday 12pm-2pm KFF-2982 Warrior's Park, Tennessee Saturday 4pm until Sunday 8am (QRT while sleeping) KFF-2942 David Crockett's Birthplace, Tennessee Sunday 11am-1pm (could go a little longer) KFF-3890 Buzzard's Roost, South Carolina Sunday 3pm-ish until Monday 9am (QRT while sleeping) KFF-2167 Black Rock State Park, Georgia, AC power, !!ATNO!! Monday 3pm-5pm KFF-3730 Altamaha WMA, Georgia !!ATNO!! 73/44, -detrick K4IZ

Re: Logging during activations
TIL that the template's name is case-sensitive (!). I downloaded the template file "cal_wwff.csv" and uploaded it to my iPhone... didn't show up in HamLog. But after some reading of the help file, and some head-scratching, I "renamed" the file to "CAL_wwff.csv" and (I kid you not) it showed up on my phone.

So the "CAL" part of the name must be in all caps... however, the template from N3VEM's web page gets downloaded with a lower-case name. Just make "CAL" be in caps and you're all set. Computers: never a dull moment!

I'm reading this post right now:

about the "Create a Log" feature of HamLog, which I'd never noticed before. (I've got the iOS version.) Wow -- it looks like the bee's knees for WWFF! I can't tell if the current version on Android has the "Create a Log" feature, so please check and let us know if you see it on your Android version of HamLog.

Re: Logging during activations

There's not a WWFF template on HamLog for Android ... I wish there was! As far as I have been able to read up on the subject, the iOS version *will* let you make custom logging templates. I can't justify getting an iOS device *just* for HamLog though. I found details on templates for the iOS version here: https://www.n3vem.com/blog/wwff-logging-more-with-hamlog Has anyone tried to reach out to N3WG to see about getting custom templates for Android? -detrick K4IZ

Well I don't have an iPhone or iPad, but used to use a small Windoze 'outer for portable logging.

However these days I keep things very simple and do paper logging in the field. My setup uses only a KX3 and battery so it fits on my lap or on a small table. I have found that at least for me using a touch screen or keyboard in the field is awkward. But then I am an OF! I transcribe logs to ACL in the comfort of my home or a hotel room. 73, Joe E., N2CX

Re: Logging during activations
Kraig D. Pritts
I have not. I have read of others who use Hamlog. I use a Microsoft Surface GO and Amateur Contact Log by N3FJP. If you decide to try ACL, I have a document in the Files section of the KFF Facebook page showing step by step how to configure it for WWFF including your park info and any Park to Park. For Ipad I think Hamlog is the only thing out there. I have used a Bluetooth keyboard with an ipad in the past for other things. As long as the ipad and keyboard have a good charge to start you should be fine. KA2LHO
