Hello all!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend our get-together in June.

I'm back in Florida working as a Director for DaVita. A roll-out of a new IT system will keep me here.

I think of you all often and all the best to a great group of people.

Re: LP

Les Myers

I was kidding about "LP." I have several shelves full of them and ponder regularly how I can rig my system to transfer their audio to CDs. A work in progress.

My father bought one of the first LP players, a Columbia, that hooked into the Motorola Radio/Phonograph (there's a word not much in play these days). We placed the LP on the tturntable, lifted the tone arm which started the platter revolving, and gently ("I said GENTLY, Les!") placed the needle on the groove. I remember being awed by the slow speed of the LP compared to what I had, at that point, grown up with- 78s. Using today's jargon, this would be iLPlayer.

Apologies to Les Myers for my tardiness in getting some pictures he sent me some time ago posted to the WJMA web site.

First a couple of "selfies" Les took back in 1970 and a couple of pictures from the 1971 "Open Air Swap Shop". http://www.wjma.radiohistory.net/WJMA photos/WJMA people/index4.html The new pictures are the first 5 starting at the top left. I think some of the Swap Shop pictures have been shared on this list, but they had not been put on the site.

Les also sent some pictures of the control room in 1970. They are the four pictures on the right end of the third row. http://www.wjma.radiohistory.net/WJMA photos/WJMA places/index.html

I tired to include a link to a web page with more information on the Volumax and Audimax, but I had trouble getting the link to work, so I'll paste it here. http://www.radioworld.com/article/the-cbs-audimax-and-volumax/17232

The Dr Peter Goldmark mentioned in the article was also influential in the development of the LP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Carl_Goldmark

As usual, if you spot typos or corrections in the captions, please let me know.

Apologies to Les Myers for my tardiness in getting some pictures he sent me some time ago posted to the WJMA web site.

Firs a couple of “selfies” Les took back in 1970 and a couple of pictures from the 1971 “Open Air Swap Shop”. http://www.wjma.radiohistory.net/WJMA photos/WJMA people/index4.html The new pictures are the first 5 starting at the top left. I think some of the Swap Shop pictures have been shared on this list, but they had not been put on the site.

Les also sent some pictures of the control room in 1970. They are the four pictures on the right end of the third row. http://www.wjma.radiohistory.net/WJMA photos/WJMA places/index.html

I tired to include a link to a web page with more information on the Volumax and Audimax, but I had trouble getting the link to work, so I’ll paste it here. http://www.radioworld.com/article/the-cbs-audimax-and-volumax/17232

Lax, Andrew <ALax@...>

Wish I could have been there. Used to love sharing the weekend slots with Jerry.
