Report from Paris

Ross Hunter <rossgroups@...>

Reid Harrison has been checking in on Facebook from Paris…last night to report he was OK.

Today he posted on Facebook:

I have no idea why there were reports (NYT, NPR) that Paris was "in a state of lockdown" today, but that simply was not the case. Parks, public buildings, and movie theaters were closed, but people were out, walking, shopping, eating at restaurants. The flow of life was fairly normal, albeit under a gray cloud of shock and outrage. One might interpret this as being cavalier, but this is a country that in its history has experienced a lot of shocking episodes. It is to their credit that this happens now and they stand up and tell those who strike at them to go to hell, they're going to live their lives. That's how it looks to me.

So glad you are OK. It was the first time we had water breach over our pond dam in 38 years ....and that was the week before rains.  Weather is definitely screwed up, but if you watching the DVD CHASING ICE, you will find out why.

Hey Ross,
There was definitely a “Music and Memories” show, though.  I don’t recall who was the host.

This question was posted on the WJMA Facebook page today:
………………………………………………………………………...
My grandmother used to have the radio on every Saturday evening.
Part of the programming was a show entitled  that featured a 1920s-30s tune (that must have been popular with the "Flappers") as a theme song.
It is still in my head, after all of this time.
Does anyone have an idea what the title was?

I need to exorcise this thing. ; )
……………………………………………………….

I don’t know the answer, but wonder if it was Collin Rosse’s “big band” show. Collin worked at WINA and had a show syndicated to at least two stations: WINA and WJMA.

Any of the Saturday night regulars on this list have an answer?

Nice job Reid!

Here’s the response from the Facebook poster;
………………………………………..
Yep. That's the song.
The show theme was an instrumental... but the lyrics put it into perspective!

Come to think of it... I went to school (elementary, circa 1966) with a Collin Rosse.

This is probably not the version on M and M, but it is the song!  Unless I’m completely wrong.

slow news day

Ross Hunter <ross@...>

News has been slow here recently. This morning brought an alert from Linked In: (You have to read to the last sentence to see mention of former WJMA owner Digby Solomon.)
.....................................................
The York County Chamber of Commerce will host a candidates forum open to anyone running in the Nov. 3 election.

The event will be Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Grafton Middle School Auditorium, 405 Grafton Drive in York. It's free and open to the public, with doors opening at 5 p.m.

After brief introductions, candidates will be asked to answer a series of questions submitted by audience members, according to a statement from chamber officials.

Earl Joyner, past president of the York County Chamber of Commerce, will serve as master of ceremonies. Digby Solomon, publisher and chief executive officer of the Daily Press Media Group, will ask the submitted questions.

a chance meeting

Ross Hunter <rossgroups@...>

Last week I was at Woodberry Forest School and ran into India Barton Rose at the Walker Center reception desk. She recognized me before I recognized her.

She’s no longer doing her internet radio show, but does voice over work for Speedy Spots in Michigan. You can hear her demo reel here: https://www.speedyspots.com/pages/talentShowcase.aspx?id=2

Here’s a link to her LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/india-rose/b2/3a3/549

And the next time you are in Las Vegas on the monorail, the voice you hear is India.
