I don't recall a program called ""Music And Memories".

I am fairly certain the Colin Rosse program was called Bandstand and in my memory it ran on Thursday evenings.

This question was posted on the WJMA Facebook page today:
………………………………………………………………………...
My grandmother used to have the radio on every Saturday evening.
Part of the programming was a show entitled  that featured a 1920s-30s tune (that must have been popular with the "Flappers") as a theme song.
It is still in my head, after all of this time.
Does anyone have an idea what the title was?

I need to exorcise this thing. ; )
……………………………………………………….

I don’t know the answer, but wonder if it was Collin Rosse’s “big band” show. Collin worked at WINA and had a show syndicated to at least two stations: WINA and WJMA.

Any of the Saturday night regulars on this list have an answer?

This is probably not the version on M and M, but it is the song!  Unless I’m completely wrong.

Glug…glug.  We’re fine. Thanks for asking.

It was pretty scary Saturday night when the lake that used to be our back yard inched toward our house but no water came in. Our street was spared but many around are dealing with a total mess. Never seen It rain so hard for so long. Reminded me of the time the WFS bridge over the Rapidan got wiped out.

Patricia,

The news out of South Carolina sounds bad. How have you and Charlie fared?

My daughter in Columbia is fine. She and her husband are off work again today. Friends have houses under threat from weakened damns. Co-workers have come to their house to shower. But, they’re safe and dry.

slow news day

Ross Hunter <ross@...>

News has been slow here recently. This morning brought an alert from Linked In: (You have to read to the last sentence to see mention of former WJMA owner Digby Solomon.)
.....................................................
The York County Chamber of Commerce will host a candidates forum open to anyone running in the Nov. 3 election.

The event will be Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Grafton Middle School Auditorium, 405 Grafton Drive in York. It's free and open to the public, with doors opening at 5 p.m.

After brief introductions, candidates will be asked to answer a series of questions submitted by audience members, according to a statement from chamber officials.

Earl Joyner, past president of the York County Chamber of Commerce, will serve as master of ceremonies. Digby Solomon, publisher and chief executive officer of the Daily Press Media Group, will ask the submitted questions.

Last week I was at Woodberry Forest School and ran into India Barton Rose at the Walker Center reception desk. She recognized me before I recognized her.

She’s no longer doing her internet radio show, but does voice over work for Speedy Spots in Michigan. You can hear her demo reel here: https://www.speedyspots.com/pages/talentShowcase.aspx?id=2

Here’s a link to her LinkedIn page: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/india-rose/b2/3a3/549

And the next time you are in Las Vegas on the monorail, the voice you hear is India.

Donald Keith Seal
William Joseph Goldstein
Robert Conley Brawley

Dates on the licenses of this last group range from 1985 to 1991. That sounds like the Digby Solomon or Carl Hurlbaus eras. I've made additions to the All-Time Staff List on the WJMA web site.

Congratulations. Be sure to archive your grade books.

Re: day and date songs

Ross Hunter <rossgroups@...>

Thanks for that info. I found a bit more on IMDB…hey it’s a slow Sunday afternoon.

Although the movie was inspired by the 1974 song of the same title, the song really didn't have much of a plot. So after the screenplay was written, Bill Fries (aka CW McCall) recorded a new version of the song, with lyrics that incorporated the characters and events of the film. This is the version that is played during the final credits.

The song had been written for a series of bread commercials, and the result was a popular trend with CB radios and trucker lingo. By the time the movie went into production in 1977, the trend had already faded, but that didn't stop it from being a box office hit.

I was surprised to see it was a Sam Peckinpah film.

Proving once again that nothing is ever simple.

My guess on why the lyric change is money, either because of some sort of contractual issue or just because Hollywood.

Mark,

I should have known better on the Bangles. A slip of the finger probably.

Thanks for clearing up the “Another Bobby Gentry” song question.

I didn’t know that Convoy had two versions. The only lyrics I found were the “sixth of June” version. Where did you find the other? Is there a story behind the lyric change?
