Barb & I are like Mark. June 7 is fine but almost any Saturday will do as long as we know a bit in advance.

Hello Fellow 'JMAers,

I thought it would be good to get together and celebrate Arch's Life and Influence AND, or course, to catch up on our own lives and paths.

Barb/Willow has graciously offered her home in Gordonsville as a meeting place on Saturday, June 7th.

Please let her know (because I am not able to use the computer too much right now -- long story).

We just need to get an idea of who is interested and who could come so we know whether or not to proceed.

Hope this works out; I am looking forward to seeing many of you.

It is so important to keep in touch with good friends and support each other in good times and in challenging times.  (And I feel like many of you are my adopted family.)

Take good care,  Mary T   75-79

Re: familiar?

Ross Hunter <rossgroups@...>

That’s not a problem. Any discussion is interesting.

Before satellite distribution was the norm, I recall there were many programs on WJMA that either came on disc or tape. When Virginia Net began satellite distribution there was news, ag programs, weather, and sports via satellite.

Remember when we did a Monday At One via satellite with one of the VNN meteorologists in Raleigh? I think we used a phone so Greg Fischel could hear Phil Audibert and Fischel’s answers were taken off the satellite feed. That would have been in the early 1980s, I think. Long before that sort of thing was common place in broadcasting.

Unless I'm mistaken, you have to pay a membership fee to American Public Media to carry their "free" programming. Something like A Prairie Home Companion adds its own carriage fee.

Without doing any research, I'm guessing it's a religious broadcaster. Some of those syndicated programs pay to be carried on air. If it's a public radio station, there is free programming available from PRX, American Public Media, and some independent producers.

Without doing any research, I'm guessing it's a religious broadcaster. Some of those syndicated programs pay to be carried on air. If it's a public radio station, there is free programming available from PRX, American Public Media, and some independent producers.

I wonder what "satellite-delivered programing" is available that is cost effective for a non-commercial low power station?

From DCRTV:

This sounds kinda familiar:
New FMer For Warrenton - 2/10 - The Federal Communications Commission
has approved a low-power FM license for Warrenton on 96.7. The
100-watt station will have mostly local, community-type programming
and some satellite-delivered programming, baltomedia.net tells us.
Owned by Verdun.....

Would be glad to have it around our pool in July at Cedar Hill Farm in Gordonsville, VA potluck! I miss him so much. He brought such light to so many lives. Wait til you see how our mighty oak from an Arbor Fay twig has grown, our Pat Watson!

To lose Arch was a big 'punch in the stomach' for me.  How about you?

I think we should get together to celebrate him -- and ourselves!.  We could have a SIMPLE reunion/get-together perhaps sometime this summer -- or early fall?    Am not sure what accomodations are in the Orange area now, but would be willing to work with a group to set this up.

As the saying goes, "Time and the tide wait for no man" {or woman, for that matter}!!

Let's do this? Any ideas?

Best wishes,  Mary T '72-'75

Very LARGE megaphone.

But a good question, nonetheless.

Interesting! But Gary asks, by what receiver? Did people have some sort of receiver? Thanks, Jane

We should take note on this Christmas Eve about this piece of history:

On Christmas Eve in 1906, the first radio program was broadcast. Canadian-born Professor Reginald Aubrey Fessenden sent his signals from the 420-foot radio tower of the National Electric Signaling Company, at Brant Rock on the Massachusetts seacoast. Fessenden opened the program by playing "O Holy Night" on the violin. Later he recited verses from the Gospel of St. Luke, then broadcast a gramophone version of Handel's "Largo." His signal was received up to five miles away.
