Catastrophe - Where are KA9Q's Web Pages?
Phil Karn, KA9Q used to have a wonderful web site at ka9q.net where he had innumerable papers on software, DSP coding, error correction, EME- everything interesting. It's gone, that URL is up for grabs. Is there an archive? WHy has it gone? I've got a couple of his papers in hard copy only and need to follow references and things. Tragedy Andy |

This is why whenever I find something interesting I make a local copy. Too many sites just disappear or companies "refresh" them and literally dump lots of useful (to somepeople, probably not new customers) information. |

You can not be sure to get things there. I know Innovantennas were actively blocking that site, because when I was trying to find some information on an antenna, I see the message that the IP adresses had been denied. They seem to have stopped that now, but the site is only showing snapshots from the last 2 years, despite their website has been up for many years. But archive.org is very useful. Recently I had a customer purchase from a UK university purchase a VNA calibration kit for an Agilent PNA-X vector network analyzer. I created a file for him, which I expected his VNA to be able to read, but it only supported an older file format. I sent him an older format file, but suggested that he should consider updating the firmware. But the latest version of firmware for his XP based machine is not on the Keysight website.😢😢😢, but archive.org would have come to the rescue. I say “would have”, as the latest XP firmware is there, but Keysight have actually now donated the university a new Windows 7 hard drive and the 64-bit CPU to run it. Well done Keysight 👍, but they should not be deleting old firmware.
