Langstone TCXO

Hi,

I am in the process of building a Langstone and some initial tests show it drifts by several kHz even at 23cm.  I would like to replace the TCXO but the one usually suggested (ABRACON ASVTX-13-C-40.000-I05-T) is not available anywhere.

So, some questions:
  • can I get a ABRACON ASVTX-13-C-40.000-I05-T from somewhere?
  • is there an alternative TCXO, if so what and where from?
  • are there any other solutions to improving stability?
I'd be grateful for any ideas,

Hi Steve,

 

Thanks that’s a possibility but I have a Rev B without the connection point.  Also, I don’t have a Leo Bodnar unfortunately.

Hi Bob,
I have 2 here I bought from Digikey 2 years ago - used a Leo Bodnar in the end
They are very very small 2mm by 1.6mm
Info on fitting, if you do not have it already, is here

need to be fitted away from the original site as temperature changes there
affect operation - a board was devised on the above link in DL
If you want them, as I will never use them, I could post them to you for free

Hi Graham,

 

If you would be prepared to send them to me that would be great and solve a big problem, my address on QRZ is correct.

 

I note what you say about mounting them away from the heat source.  I may also make a breakout board, they are cheap to get from China, eg JLCPCB. It will also make fitting it much easier and less risky – SMD parts of this size are not easy to handle!
