GB3NGI

John Lemay

The recent query about G8MBU has reminded me to ask about GB3NGI on 23cms:-

A couple of weeks ago I used aircraft scatter to compare a dish with a small
box of yagis, and on both antennas I had decodes of the JT4G about 15 times
per hour.

I repeated the test this weekend, but over many hours, there was not a
single decode. That's a bit of a surprise, because it usually seems to me
that regardless of tropo conditions, aircraft scatter can be pretty
reliable.

GB3NGI was last spotted on Beaconspot on the 18th July.

So, I am wondering, is it functioning normally ?

Appears to be functioning fine here visually in IO74PC only 144Kms away but through a 230 metre very steep hill. Screen shoot  attached. As to strength looks about average but about 30dB weaker than at one point last week when there was good tropo.

Hi John

There was a power outage at the site over the weekend - not sure when it started (sometime mid Saturday) and power was restored yesterday morning at 10:00am so maybe that’s why you didn’t hear it. I only found out about it late Saturday night when the GSM switch reported it was running on battery.
There was a recent site visit (not by me) to reprogram the 70cms beacon and as part of that visit the beacons were to be moved onto the site genny but looks like that didn’t work out.
Will have to renegotiate another visit to get that done.

Hearing it fine here in JO02SS, about 1 decode in 4 passes today reporting -23 to -21.

Thanks Gordon, Phil and Richard

Pleased to say that normal service seems to have resumed; 13 decodes in the last hour, with the best at -14dB. Temporary aerial, 4 x 23 ele at about 20ft.
