I brought back some PCN1900 amplifiers from my Dayton trip. The transistors in some of these should be equally as usuable on 13cm as the Siemens units from DL4MEA. I get 25W from my DL4MEA/Siemens amplifier (drive limited, not output). I have also now successfully modified one of the Siemens DCS1800 amplifiers down to 23cm. I am getting 35W out but have run out of drive there as welll. It looks good for at least 50W and the IMD performance of these DCS and PCN amplifiers is superb on the usual 26V supply. I've also recently obtained some new surplus amplifiers for both 900GSM and 1800DCS and these also look good for mod'ing. I saw one of these at Weinheim already mod'ed for 23cm and giving over 50W out. The future look bright, the future look (well, you know!). Now my neighbour has erected his 6 foot fence I am ready to get my 23cm EME dish project back on the rails. Have one of the new 'Prague' rectangular circular waveguide feeds. Thanks for the mention - I am sure the reflector will expand as word gets round. OK on the 3.4g beacon Well I am going to be much more active next year - I have done DXCC on 6m now (122 countrys!) and so will be looking for microwave challenges now thats out my system! - think I will be concentrating on the lower bands - have 23cms near sorted - LT23s plus 2 x 2c39's - 4 x 48 ele loops so shud be a good sig - 2.3 is lacking - only 1 watt but been chasing some amps from US but nothing come of that so far - 3.4 - got 40 watts on that band - 1.2m dish - was going to build a DK1UV feed for the dish so I can run multiple bands off one feed. 6cms - 10 watts and 1.2m - 10g - 10 watts 1.2m I was chasing some 24g gear from the US and had two PCOM units lined up but the guy emailed today after I asked him to take the lids off the unit and photo them for me, to say that half the insides are missing -seems he paid 100USD for empty space! ooppps! So... hope to be a bit more active - Dave GM4WLL will prob be joining me too. If someone has some spare 24g gear I'll get on and activate it! Peter PHO has given me some tips for sites so will be looking at that over the winter too! I fancied some 23cms EME but will have to wait until I get the dish sorted. well, I believe there is or was a reflector set up by G8MWR some time ago. I rarely if ever saw references to it and don't know if it was ever widely used. I was supposed to get in touch with Glenn to see if the UK Microwave Group could adopt it as the reflector for the group, but I must admit that I had reservations about doing so and then things kind of drifted. You already have one new user as a result of my mentioning the group in a conversation last night. You will have seen G3XDY's mention of the new 9cm beacon. I'm pleased to say that when I brought my 9cm transverter out of it's 2.5 year hibernation and connected a small horn antenna the beacon nearly blew my socks off even when pointing in the other direction from the beacon site and with no mutual visibility. I used Peter PHO's email list for the first round of invites and if you don't see anyone on here you think would be interested in it then please let them know the address where to find it. I am not sure if having to have a yahoo acct puts some people off. It shouldn't. I never receive anything from Yahoo unsolicited unlike MS! Hi folks,
I am pleased to announce that GB3MHX (10368.830MHz) located in JO02PB, Martlesham, returned to service ealier today (26th September) with an increase in output power to 0.5W into the antenna. This should make the beacon more suited to rainscatter propagation monitoring. The frequency of the beacon has also been reset to the correct frequency. It was about 8kHz high after more than 5 years of non-resetting (crystal aging). The new frequency was measured to be 800Hz low of .830. Normal diurnal cycling in the tower room will cause the beacon to settle about .830, but further crystal aging will mean resetting again in about 12 months or so. There will be further news of a new beacon at Martlesham later from one of the G4MRS team. regards Sam |
