That's the advantage of using microcontrollers for all Tx/Rx switching and sequencing.
The algorithm can preset all latching relays into the correct position before anything is activated

If they don't have tellback contacts, there is a bit of a problem in knowing the current state of the relay following loss of power for instance. I've just bought some HP latching jobs with

For latching relays that don’t shot off current I use an SOIC Dual Coil Driver FAN3240TMX from Fairchild Semiconductor – now ON Semiconductor.

There was a thread a while back about lathing relays.
The ones I had required a voltage, they latched then pulled no current.
One's I have just got need volts to latch then pull about 100mA if volts

They have off cuts, I think I got a 3m 2" (scaf) & 1 1/2" and some other bits for £25
The postage is expensive £28
Unless you get it delivered to a business address £18, they don't know why this is

Neither of those you mentioned would be strong enough. Just as an aside they now make Glass Fibre scaffold tube.... its as strong as the steel one apparently.
