High-side switch boards are in ...

Robin Szemeti - G1YFG

Right then, these arrived this morning .. just need the Fedex man to come back and deliver the solder paste stencils that are also on his van and I can build a few up.

image.png

Also delivered weresome 13cm preamp boards, based on the SAV541+ ... be interesting to see if those perform as expected ... I may be looking for a suitable victime with a properly calibrated noise figure meter ...

image.png
And not really uWave related but maybe still of interest ... some PA boards based on the MRF300A/BN for 70MHz ...  if they work as planned, I'll let you know!

Does anyone have a couple of BFR520 transistors they could be persuaded to part with please ?

10 GHz Transverter.

Colin Ranson

Neil, the spreadsheet is excellent – can see where we all stand re – ‘what we have on order’

I am fortunate in that I have been a kleptomaniac over the years and have quite a bit of stuff to forward this project on.

I intend using an RLC  SMA 12v latching transfer relay at the mast head ( SR-TC-R-H-I-L 18GHz ) with an HUP LRD, lucky enough to have acquired a few.

I also intend using an old fashioned multiplier up to 2484MHz – board is under development – just waiting for some PCB from Rapid (its only just down the A12 but I have to have it in the post – bah!)  Multiplier is driven by an HUP DFS with an O/P on 92MHz – driven by a DASCO OCXO at 10MHz – on soak at the moment.

2484 MHz will be filtered by a double pipe cap filter, hopefully outputting 10dbm (presently on 2556MHz) it was supplied by Ken Vickers – he is moving house presently so don’t expect he will be able to supply more yet – but worth a gentle try ?  Its a clever design with a machined up internal brass cavity for the tuning screw and the input/output is DC grounded.

So, will look forward to acquiring  a 1-3w PA and a masthead pre-amp – the transverter will be in loft by the soffit under the 60cm offset dish, I cannot envisage a large plastic box under the dish, the PA and LNA will be enough.   I will only be able to ‘see’ from Ipswich SW + or - a bit and W through to N due to other buildings and my own roof.

That’s the story from G8LBS, this lock-in has enabled a lot of ‘shack time’ but if it clears up a bit HWSBO will be dragging me out every day.... and I won’t complain, my car has done under a 1000 miles in a year !

Best regards to all

Colin de G8LBS

My newly delivered unit tested OK, with Windows 7.  Think you are correct, sounds like Windows 10 upgrade issue?

Update, just ran config system on my lad's Mac and it is working fine. A Windows 10 issue on two different laptops it would seem, either  config software itself or windows I guess. Will see what the support guy at the firm itself thinks

Thanks all for the offerings. I expect now to receive the right ones for the project.

The Elektor one I never tried, but the AR488 appears to work just dandy with things like EZGPIB.

Hi Wilko,
Thanks for that, i came across it and the one published in Elektor back in 2011 i think.
Its certainly worth a try for the cost of an Arduino and a 24 pin centronics socket
thanks

Google AR488 for a cheap Prologix clone based on an Arduino.

I have one which works just fine with my HP3478a and 2x HP8642a. It works even with the 8642a on a single bus, which is nice given the lack of proper IEEE488 bus drivers.

It can also do target mode like the Prologix, admittedly I have not tried that as I have no use for it.

Price is hard to beat too..

Mark,

Just stick them in a jiffy bag and put a CN22B on them (available at the Post Office) - if the value marked is less than ~20 euros, there will be no charge.

Posting loads of orders to EU and RoW from the BATC shop using that method and it works and not heard of anyone being charged yet even though the values marked were higher - no special values for customs used here!

Try John Dodds at BEC Distribution.   johnd@....

Explaining to him the use they will be put to helps. I think he likes radio amateurs !

For a new 10GHz beacon we plan to use an IF of around 600MHz, for this we need 4 band-pass filters.
Does anyone know a source for these filters ?

Indeed Brian, it was the phone number I rang, a dear old lady answered and as soon as I mentioned DASCo she brightened up ! Think DASCO stands for Derek A Smith Company.

All sorted here now, its soak testing with my HUP DFS at the moment.

Hi Colin,

You seem to have got the data you need. I ran mine off 12V and was not aware of issues. It ran that way Up a 30 ft tower north of Inverness at GM3WOJ's QTH.for a couple of years.
Mine came on a section of PCB which had an 8-pin 5v SMD voltage regulator and a TTL chip buffering the output of the oscillator. The schematic that David posted looks familiar!
I always liked the fact that it had the makers phone number on it. You don't see that often!

TOKO HELICALS

I meant to add these came within 3-4 days with no added cost to the e-bay price from KUHNE.  They were 4 Euro each BTW.

Afternoon,

I just got some 820MHz double pole TOKO’s (5 x Toko 5HW-78045A-820, 5HW-78045 Helixfilter Helical Filter, 820 MHz) from  KUHNE via e-bay, not cheap at nearly 4 quid each, I really only needed one.  Using in my 92MHz – 2484 MHz multiplier at 828MHz.

Not looked but maybe some 600MHz there ?   An email to BEC distribution might help, a John Dodds – johnd@....

Hope helps

Maarten  the smaller filters do not go down to 600MHz..   730MHz min

Now we are outside the EU, I'm not sure how EU  would treat incoming gifts  or  low value items,  The UK has adopted new systems already, much discussed here.  I gather the EU will be doing similar  in a few months

So in essence  we both  have the same issue in sending you a filter..  with the possible difference  that I am not running a business.

I didn't made it very clear but I  need small signal filters I can mount on a PCB e.g. Toko , Neosid or  Temwell. I do't know SWAF supplier brands.

Hi Maarten

I have some  interdigital filters that will tune easily but they are not  very small  170 x 90 x 25.   The SMA connections  will make the 90mm dimension larger.  passbannd is about 10MHz

also some smaller 800MHz ones that may tune down.  150 x 70 (inc SMS sockets) x 25  I will dig one out and play
