Thanks Nick,
Always a good start!

I am quite looking forward to getting back on the band!
Hopefully we will have a QSO, soon.

C-Band LNB on 3.4GHz?

Ed G3VPF

With the new interest in 3.4GHz arising from the Bulgarian transverter availability, has anyone tried locking a C-Band LNB to make a very low-cost receive system for the band? There seems to be a number available from the US and China that claim to cover the amateur band.

Brian, Gregory, et al
How many unique stations (#) have you worked on the band?
With so few (relatively speaking) stations active on 9cm, a situation somewhat similar to EME exists. Instead of dxcc or VUCC, it becomes as meaningful to collect initials (#).
The danger is that once worked you don't want to work them again.
I am sure microwavers would never fall into that trap....
Just a suggestion.
Worth some further discussion?

Well done. I've 9cm set up here in Edinburgh, but working down to your parts on 2W would be a bit optimistic. I can now hear GB3CSB on 9cm again after the damp weather and snow. Both the 9cm and 13cm beacons vanished . 13cm seems to be worse affected.

I'm keeping the dish for 9cm up for a few months if anyone local wants to play.

Colin Ranson

Hi Nigel, yes I came on for 10 minutes in the last half hour of the AFS,  thanks for the report from Mersey Island, I was beaming west.

I will look out for you when up and running. I think I am going to have to revise my antenna positioning, difficult to explain why.

Best regards

Colin de G8LBS, Ipswich.

I am about 20 miles SSW from you and the others in the Ipswich area.
QTH is Mersea Island JO 01LS
my 9cm transverter was sent by BG post and has not yet arrived. I have got a 20dBi flat panel antenna ready and have a good takeoff from one of the front upstairs windows in the Ipswich direction. Heard Colin today on 2m obviously very loud.

Colin,

It will be interesting to see how well it works over our 10-12km NLOS path with low/moderate power.

As far as I know, there is yourself, plus G3XDY and G4FSG locally. I am not sure G3LQR is operational any longer.

G4BAO is around 70km from me and I have worked him on 9cm a number of times, previously.

To the south, G4OGI in Kent, is active on 9cm. I am sure there are many others who are, are were, active within 100km of us.

Much, much, greater ranges are possible, of course, but it always helps to have someone local to test with, first.
