Some help with a LNB MoD Please

john nichols

Dear U.K. Microwaves Group

I am a new ham and excited to be learning about this fascinating hobby.

I am very keen to operate via OQ100 and have been assembling various equipment to allow me to do so. Currently I have a Pluto, GPSDO, Triplexer board to feed, DC and Reff to my LNB.

The LNB I have is a Octagon OLTW.

Unfortunately I do not have the knowledge and skills along with the tools currently to undertake a modification to lock the LNB to the reference clock signal.

Would One of you be prepared to modify the LNB for me ? I would obviously pay for time and any materials. If that did that did not sit comfortably I would also be very happy to make a donation to charity of your choice.

I live in Bromley, Kent and in a perfect world would perhaps watch you undertake the work so that I might learn from seeing the work completed. But of course if that is not practical I would obviously post the LNB.

I would be very grateful for any offers of assistance or perhaps any other guidance.

All the very best
John

There are issues with various models of LNB.

Here is a spreadsheet which gives some interesting observed information:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YH9BJZrp1NXOO0S_TTujlZZPBEByqZ2CR0EgZRm2uxA/edit#gid=0

Unfortunately your Technomate is not listed but at least you can see how LNBs vary.

Callsign: G3ZME/P
Location: IO82QL83 (Brown Clee)
Band: 24 GHz, 65cm dish
Talkback: 144.390MHz SSB, ON4KST, possibly Zello (G3UKV). Tel: 07421 001166
Time: from about 10:30 local

73 Martyn G3UKV

Next Sunday sees the UKuG's major mm-wave event of the year, covering all bands from 24GHz to 248GHz. I know that maps were being carefully consulted at the RAL round table yesterday to plot possible paths, so I hope there will be some good distances worked on all bands.

The rules are here:

https://www.microwavers.org/files/2019-mwrules.pdf

As usual I will assemble an activity list and post it here, Please send details of your plans by close of play on Friday this week and I will consolidate them and send out the list on Saturday. Please note that the exchange for these events asks for 8 character locator information to be exchanged and logged.

Hi
For the difference in price and gain , the OP100 fits easily in a car , at 10GHz between the 1mtr and 1.25 mtr dish there is 1 dB
, that extra 250 mm doubles the price. thats a lot for a gnats cock of an S point
My activity on 23 cms has been abysmal this year, but I now have a bit more power, so I will be back on a bit more , all my PAs are solid state now
so I now have 120W to 70ele, so you should hear me OK

Thanks for information John
i know PKT is meant to have been playing up for a while on 10ghz .....the 24ghz beacon was also changing rapidly in strength but I presumed that was because my dish was at 20ft beaming through 50ft chestnut trees.

maybe Tony or John may have some more information.

10ghz transverter with 10w amp is my next project to box up so hopefully be on 10ghz in a few weeks

cheers

Many thanks for your suggestions.

The problem lay in my 2m transverter - due to a curious PTT arrangement, the 2m transverter was (only part of it) going into transmit when it should have been receiving and consequently it heard nothing from the 13cms transverter. I was led to the wrong conclusion when my 3cms transverter was connected - probably one PTT line pulling another down.

So now Martlesham is "S"9 plus - and that's using my 23cms feed !

That's a relief - I rather suspected an error of some sort on my part.

Does it go on to transmit when you earth the PTT line?

If you inject 10MHz, does the PLL lock OK? - I have to use a square
wave to lock mine, it won't lock to a +5dBm sine

If you put a speccy analyser on the RX port, do you see any leakage of
the LO at 2176MHz? I see about -48dBm

When you apply power do you get any relays clicking
The current being drawn looks about right!!!
Could be anything.
Looking at the circuit with no noise
K101 could be energised but that’s controlled by the processor driving a Fet
T104 could be short holding it on to TX
Sounds like you may have to send back if it’s brand new
Good luck

No, I don't have any volts present on the 144MHz port.

I have +12v on Pin 1 and 0v on Pin 7 of the small header.

I have linked Pin 19 to Pin 20, and Pin 23 to Pin 24 on the main header. Just like the handbook example and that should provide a translation from 2320 to 144.

What am I missing ?

I've injected -20dBm at 230MHZ and there isn't any suggestion of even a weak signal.

I'm using my usual 144 to 28 transverter - which is fine with the 3cms system this morning.

I'm stumped.
