Folks,
we all know the Fraser Sheperd award given by the UKuG for amateur microwave work, but does anyone have any background information on who Fraser Shepard was and what his contribution to amateur microwave radio was about? It would be nice to have that info. RSGB seems unable to help with any real info.
It would be a shame for our many amateur radio OM personalities to slip away as just 'names'.

Hi

Does anyone know how to get hold of the admin for KST - the email address on the home page did not get a response, probably due to spamming.

We're looking to see if it would be possible to have a seperate chat room for ATV / DATV as there is renewed activity in 70cms DX working and reliable T/B would be useful without getting drowned out by the normal microwave traffic on KST during contests and busy times.

If possible we'd like to get it up and running in time for the ATV activity on August 22nd (same day as next 10GHz cumulative).

Thanks Ian,
Now we all know who he was!
One of the true EME pioneers.
I have to admit that apart from his callsign, I knew nothing more of him.
A most fitting trophy for Joe Taylor at the up-coming EME Conference.

MTI catalogue

Richard <richard.bown@...>

Hi

has anyone got any MTI data
I have one of their modules, SMA iN and out, MTI AL1022.
+12V supply in bias tee ect, I powered it up with a 10GHz 3dB hybrid.
appears to have about 25 ~30dB gain, limits at about 20mw between 2.1 and 3 GHz.
I've got a gap between 3.3 GHz and 3.6 GHz I can't measure, but still some gain
a 3.6 GHz, get quite warm.
Just like to know what it s supposed to be, whether its a 2.5 GHz LNA or a GP
gain block.

13cm amps

Dave <davecossar@...>

Hi I’ve been in my garage again and found a 13cm transverter, rx works tx 5 mW out.

I also have an Amp (1 Watt I think)

I want to rehouse it in a Plastic waterproof case whit a bigger heatsink just in case I decide on a 10w amp at a later stage.

Has anyone got circuits of these G3WDG items the 13 cm Transverter and an Amp( has a small SM IC )

As they PA is disconnected it has 2 wires connected across a resistor I have no idea what they are for but I suspect it is part of the TX/RX cct PSU

Thanks

New Analog Devices ADC 90dBc SFDR

f4exb@...

Hello,

I found this interesting article in my in-box today:

http://www2.electronicproducts.com/16_bit_dual_ADC_uses_half_the_power_of_competing_parts-Article-hlcn04_sep2010.html.aspx

"The AD9650 A/D converter consumes 328 mW per channel, which according to the
company is half the power per channel of competing data converters while
achieving an industry-best SNR figure of 82 dBFS and SFDR performance of 90 dBc
with a 30-MHz input. The part is designed for high-performance data acquisition
systems in medical imaging, industrial, spectrum analysis, multimode radio, and
radar applications.

Features include an on-chip dither option, an analog input range of 2.7 Vp-p,
and IF sampling frequencies to 300 MHz. The AD9650 is also available in
speed-grade options of 80, 65, and 25 Msamples/s. Housed in a 64-lead LFCSP
package, the AD9650 operates from a single 1.8-V supply and a separate digital
output driver supply, accommodating 1.8-V CMOS or LVDS outputs. (Ea/1,000:
105-Msample/s version, $122.50, 25-Msample/s version,$52.50 samples available
now.)"

Technology evolves and makes it more and more possible to sample IF directly
with a good dynamic range. I guess 300 MHz IF is achieved by undersampling.

Edouard, F4EXB.

RSGB UHF UKAC Results

Richard Cooper G4WFR <vhf@...>

Hi all,

Just to let you know that I have just completed adjudication & uploaded the RSGB UHF UKAC results to include the July session.
These can be found at: http://www.rsgbcc.org/vhf/results/10/uhfukac.html

Nice entry level again, slightly lower than the last few months but still well up on previous years. Looks like SM7ECM proved to be nice DX for a few.
Thanks to all who were active & don't forget that checklogs are always welcome from those who do not wish to actually place an entry.

Good luck for August!

Hi guys, looking for external mixers for my TEK 492. I can cover up to 40GHZ but would like to cover 47 and 76ghz at least.
Anyone got these or a design to machine one up. Don't like doing these bands without any test gear.

And what on earth do I do about power measurment without spending a fortune ?
