Re: Transverter

Andy G4JNT

Only snag I found was when Tx and RX ports are separated to use with an external PA.  Then you lose the printed BP filter on receive, as it then just becomes a Tx cleaning filter.  So the mixer becomes susceptible to 3G base station interference as a third order term, 2.LO - RF.   So if you have a 3G base station locally that happens to be on that channel ...

Thanks for ideas folks .The combined feed will go to a 1992 built G3WDG TX mixer , 2556MHZ for the 1/4 LO and 144MHZ to wobble the output with a few milli Watts to feed to small PA module .
Will let you know if and when it works.
At least in the shack the reduced height slotted WG antenna pattern looks better than before the hacksaw was applied yesterday and the large soldering iron today.
Such Fun.

Hi John
Depending on what type of mixer you are using at masthead, you may not
need to separate the two frequencies, then that just leaves getting the
DC off the feeder which is much easier .
Unless the diplexer is very efficient you will end up with 144 and 2256
on either port with just the levels changed, then when you recombine at
the mixer the will probably be a phase difference between the original
components

Re: Diplexer design

Andy G4JNT

Off the top of my head, without using any design tools :

2GHz path  10pF from common port to LO input.    1/4 wave of wire close wound on say 3mm dialmeter from there to deck

144MHz path, bit trickier, but if match isn't important, try 4 turns 6mm diameter  common port to 144MHz port.  Then 10pF to groud.
That gives you a basic high-pass low pass diplexer

Separate out DC at 144 - say 1nF and 200nH and another 1nF to decouple DC line
...  that turns it into a triplexer

Re: RSGB SHF Contest Consultation

Norman Stewart

There needs to be more than two weeks between the May UHF+ and May 144MHz contests and also VHF NFD and the 70 MHz Trophy contests. These are some of the 'big contests' and for a large group deployment there is not enough time between them to plan and re-organise for the next one. As a result we (Lothians Radio Society Contest Group) have had to drop some of them.

I have added this to the comments at the end of the survey.
