I think it might be a case of white/coloured pots being made from PP and the clear tubs, PET.  Margerine tubs f'rinstance go off badly all by themselves with age, never mind with paint in them.

There MUST be a good back-story to this Richard? Did you try doing it, then the paint dissolved the pot and dripped on something expensive????

I'd never thought of this techique though, good tip. I'll use a tinfoil container though.
