Dismounted French dragoons at Blenheim

Peter Godden

Hi Nick,
just wanting to check that I'm rating the unit of dismounted dragoons on the French far right correctly...
- as Dragoons their unit quality is D.
- they are Small, so get a -1 for Morale Tests.
- they are dismounted, so still only suffer 2 morale failures even though they have "become infantry".
- the Blenheim scenario states that they remain Trained, (despite the body of the rules (p14) noting they could be downgraded to Raw).

Thanks in anticipation for your guidance and in appreciation of the map legend update

Cheers,
            Peter.

Hi Peter,

The French dismounted dragoons at Blenheim are a little bit unusual as they are not the standard dismounted dragoons. The normal assumption is that the dragoons have their horses and a proportion have dismounted to fight & some others are holding the horses. They fight as small because the rest of the unit is holding the horses. This unit doesn't have any horses any more and so is basically an infantry unit that just happens to be made up of not many dragoons & is small for that reason.

So yes they are D and small.

They are not dismounted in the normal sense so they count as infantry with 3 morale failures and don't get downgraded.

Does that make sense?

All the best,

Nick

Perfectly logical, presumably these were the regiments which were afflicted by glanders?
