Theosophy in USA has a great opportunity

the USA is reckoning with centuries of racial injustice”

Theosophy movement is the first one in the world with Universal Brotherhood as foundation. It was long before the world recognized the fact – brotherhood is fact of nature. Unfortunately, in the land where the movement was launched – it was not an accident – inspired by the Wise from the East – today we see the pitiful state. Followers do not reflect the diversity of USA. Looks exclusive. No one talks about it

Now is a great opportunity to reach minorities – black and hispanic. Future of Theosophy in USA depends on reaching minorities We should not miss the great opportunity

Are American theosophists ready to grab it?

In the good old days of SWOT Analysis, it was generally assumed that Opportunities and Threats to an organization are from the external; and Strengths and Weaknesses are from the internal. Contradicting these principles, an organization of poor ledership and mismanagement can face Threats from within and such an organization is doomed to fail in it's  mission.

When TS was launched, there were exchange of views between the Adepts and Hume and Sinnett about setting up a separate lodge to cater to Anglo Indians - English and Indian mixed offsprings. It was turned down because theosophy was to reach Alpha and Omega - all sections of Indians with no discrimination.
Couple of decades ago, American Section had a chance to break thru and make the membership diverse when a well known theosophist, Bing Escudero, a past President of Philippines Section emigrated to USA and lectured widely ran for elected office and was defeated as he was not a native son.
What do you see today? A visitor to any theosophical gathering will mistake it for an exclusive group. Lack of interest in making the membership diverse is clearly demonstrated in Cleveland Lodge in Ohio. The city has more than 50% of Afro American origin and has tons of money in the bank.
Last year it sent $50,000 to National Headquarters (you can see this in the tax return in public domain) and spent paltry $13,000 locally. Surely National was happy to receive the large donation. It should have sent the money back and asked the lodge to work hard to increase membership. But was not done.
Anyone who raises these sensitive and yet future survival issues may have to pay a price.
It's time for all theosophists to wake up to the reality and swing into action. Future of theosophy in USA is at stake.
Thankfully we have Internet social forums for us to freely discuss the issue.
Peace
