A Great Message from one of the Adepts – 1934

It is inspiring and relevant today as it was spoken in 1934. Credit goes to Joseph Ross in publishing it in his book on Egyptian Rite.While it is long, it is worth reading and we all can benefit by it

The Masters brought the Theosophical Society into being as a channel through which Their Principles might be given to the world; and it was needful that the Brothers of that Society should and shall do all in their power to live those Principles, and aid others to live them. Those Principles have been lost, nay, deliberately misstated and misused; and therefore I bid you restudy Our Principles and test your lives by them. The Society should be composed of unsectarian seekers after Truth, servers of Humanity, spiritual people checking the advance of materialism and the oppression of the humble and the poor. It should be an Universal Brotherhood of Humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste, colour or class; studying Comparative Religion, Philosophy and Science; investigating the laws of Nature and the powers of man.

These Principles can be seen in any copy of The Theosophist, and I would draw attention to the stress that is rightly laid on Truth, freedom of thought, and allegiance only to the Principles mentioned above. I will quote:

“The Members of the General Council earnestly request every member of the Theosophical Society to maintain, defend and act upon these fundamental principles of the Society, and also fearlessly to exercise his own right of liberty of thought and of expression thereof, within the limits of courtesy and consideration for others”.

I say to you, not in vain criticism but as One Who stands for Justice and Love and Truth, that these great Principles, although printed for all to see in The Theosophist are deliberately violated by certain of your Leaders, and that the very reverse of those Principles is the practice of many in the Society today.

I will say no more of this matter. I only wish to indicate the lack of Brotherhood, Freedom, Truth, Justice and Belief that exists in the Society now. I am ashamed, yes, when I contemplate not only your Principles, but the desecration that has been wrought under your Symbol — the Symbol of the All-encompassing Serpent of Eternity and Fecundity, the Serpent of Universal Life and Brotherhood that is Oneness; the interlaced Triangles of the Wisdom of the Ever Light-Dark, Father-Mother Deity Who is beyond all; the Occult Seal of Knowledge within which is the holy Ankh, the Key of the Gods, the Revealer of the Mysteries, the Life-Force, the Holy Ghost, the Inspirer and Creator of mankind.

Then the Dharma, the ever-recurring Wheel of the Law, is represented by the Swastika of Our Lord the Buddha, and above all is the Most Holy and Sacred Name OM. The Holy Trinity Who rules the world is thus your Standard—OM, the Father; Ankh, the Holy Ghost; and Swastika, the Son. Again, as there are Truths beyond Truths in Our Principles, so there are Mysteries beyond Mysteries in Our Symbols. The karma of these Principles and of these Symbols is great indeed. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Satyan nasti paro Dharma. There is no Religion higher than Truth. There is no Religion higher than the Way, and the Way is the Law. Have not your great Founders taught you to seek Truth, that is the Way and the law, always? Has not Our Beloved Krishnaji, whose Teaching is so near to Our Own, told you this also? Is not your Bond of Union a common aspiration towards the Mysteries; and should not, according to your great Founders who spoke for Us, all antagonism, all falsehood, all uncharitableness, all bigotry, all ill-will be cast from you into the outermost darkness?

Is the occult discernment of your Leaders so uncertain that they must either reject Me or await the result of a discussion between both parties, presumably your Leaders and My Messengers, and not till then come forth with a pronouncement of the Truth or falsehood of My Message? Surely those who are attuned to the influences that the Masters bring, especially such pronounced influences as My Own and that of the Master Morya, need not await a discussion before they can tell if they are deceived or not....

My Pupils, what think you Our Beloved Daughter, Madame Blavatsky, kind Upasika, Our first Messenger to the modern world, feels about the low ebb of sentimental spirituality that now pervades you all, and the neurotic leaning on authority and escape from Life which is the attitude of mind into which you are all falling? You have often been shaken in your Faith. You have suffered reverses, but these should strengthen you the more, if you are psychologically free from superstition and from fear. Like the Religions of old the Society has fallen under the evil sway of Priestcraft. How often have We to say that Priests are the servants of Gods and men, and not their Lords?

Just got the 2019 Income tax return for Cleveland, Ohio, USA branch. In USA, the tax returns are public since taxpayer is subsidizing them by not paying income and other taxes. The US Congress wants the public as watch dog to oversee the charitable non tax paying organizations. Of course these organizations are not happy since they want to keep money matters secret. This includes the American Section of TS. (Years ago, they wanted the writer to personally travel 1,000 miles to pick up a couple of pages – violating the law!!!)

Here is the revealing details:

The branch donated a total of $64,000.

American Section received $51,000

Other local charities including Theosophical Order of Service ($2,000) received $13,000.

Unless money is used locally, how do you spread the message of theosophy?

What is surprising is that the investment broker and accountant were well paid!!!

Accountant $3,000

If branches send all their money to National Headquarters, no wonder the membership is shrinking everyday.

Also cannot be overlooked is the fact that there are no black members in Cleveland branch even though nearly 40% of the population is Black. Theosophy was not launched to exclude anyone!

Just learnt he passed away in December 2018, two years ago. He is known to theosophists for his excellent bio of C W Leadbeater – “The Elder Brother” which brought out unfavorable facts.

He is also remembered for disclosing existence of super secret ceremonial group – Egyptian Rite which even many ES members did not know. The facts he disclosed about ER were recently confirmed in Joseph Ross' publication on ER.

He will be remembered by many who were in touch with him for his openness and promptness in responding to correspondence

I learnt about Egyptian Rite from Dr. Tillett's book - Elder Brother (CWL Bio). When I inquired with a long time ES member, was confirmed with one word YES. Subsequently, Tillett covered it in a paper presented at Theosophy History conference in 1992. It was updated and made available on Internet in 2013. Tillett covered it also in his 1986 PhD thesis which was later available on line.

Ross recently published three volumes on ER which confirmed that all the info published by Tillett to be correct. The surprising fact disclosed by Ross is that even many ES members did not know about the existence of ER perhaps because admission is by invitation only while membership in ES is a pre-requisite. It was kept so secret that the Leaders need to be congratulated.

Sri Ram who headed ER in addition to TS and ES, confirmed when a lodge inquired. He stated correctly that it is ceremonial group like Masonic. If so why was the secrecy? To enhance it's greatness by super secrecy. Every one knows about Masonic groups. What is secret is their ceremonial rituals.

Bottom line it is supposed to help theosophy. Did all the secrecy help spread theosophy? Probably not.

While Theosophy is founded on Universal Brotherhood, in effect this interlocking structure has created a Class system in TS -

Highest - ER

Next     - ES

Lowest - Ordinary dues paying members who are not in ES and ER

Today's environment is for more transparency and growing young don't accept cult like secrecy with pledge of loyalty to a man or woman, many times you do not even know!

With dwindling membership and serious problems like lack of afro american members in USA, unless some radical change in direction takes place, theosophy will be a laughing stock.

Can you and me keep silent bystanders? No No.

We have in our hands most potent tools - Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, email groups to spread the gems of  Theosophy

All that is needed is creative ideas and our time

Future of Theosophy is Great

There are many unselfish honest theosophists who are imbued with the spirit of Universal Brotherhood & practice it every day and are happy from the satisfaction of helping their brothers and sisters Most of them you will find in India today.

Internet demands transparency. Today’s young reject secret cults and groups demanding implicit obedience to a man or woman. Nor any secret groups and secret rituals are accepted as pathway to personal salvation.

Situation in USA is serious. Where are the black members after 145 yrs? Unless American Theosophists take theosophy to blacks and minorities, the future is bleak. Public opinion will see theosophy as discriminatory & shut down theosophy organizations because taxpayer money is subsidizing them.

Internet social forums is the salvation of theosophy. You and me are going to lead the revolution to take theosophy to the masses and our honest transparent approach will resonate with them

Dr. Tillett's comments on the feedback he got from 'theosophists' is very interesting. The feedbackers are supposed to practice Universal Brotherhood!

Dr Santucci’s response is, as far as I know, entirely accurate. I know of no evidence to suggest that my paper was not published by him for any reason other than my failure to complete it to an appropriate academic standard (despite requests from him). I must acknowledge that the fault was entirely mine!

I agreed to the request to publish the draft paper because I cannot, at present, foresee being able to revise, update and complete the paper to the standard I would expect for a scholarly publication. I very much regret that other demands on my time have limited my ability to undertake scholarly writing in the field of Theosophical history for many years (despite my accumulation of ever increasing amounts of material).

Dr Santucci has sought to maintain the essential standards of scholarly research and publication for “Theosophical History” – an unusual approach, indeed, in this field! And one for which those of us interested in the area owe him an extraordinary debt of gratitude. The cost to him, in time and money, cannot be underestimated.

I have long been aware of the hostile correspondence which followed the 1992 conference. I have also long been subjected to hostile, threatening and insulting communications from those who claim a commitment to “brotherly love”, in relation to my biography of Leadbeater, the 1992 conference and (now) as a result of the publication of “The Esoteric Within The Esoteric”. I am sufficiently professionally experienced in dealing with the malevolent, the psychiatrically dysfunctional and “bully boys” to be amused rather than impressed, let alone disturbed, by such pathological outbursts!

There are some for whom “There is no religion higher than truth” has been reframed to “There is no religion higher than a carefully edited and selectively adjusted version of truth”.

Ultra Secret ER – Cat is out of the bag

Anyone who is attracted to the first object – Universal Brotherhood and joins the Theosophical Society is unaware of the cross membership in ES, Co-Masonic, and ER.

Legally they are independent entities. But without membership in them, you cannot climb the organizational ladder. One makes personal pledges of secrecy and there is a camaraderie and elitistness driven by the powerful belief of accelerated spiritual progress towards chelaship of an Adept. It keeps all silent. That is a reason for lack of members’ participation in social media. Good standing in the Theosophical Society is a pre-requisite. So losing the membership results in automatic termination from these organizations (except Co-Masonic). Termination is psychologically traumatic event like you being prevented from entering your Church or Temple. It is a great leverage on members.

Sri Ram and Radha Burnier headed all the organizations and members’ personal pledges consolidated their power.

Gregory Tillett, author of CWL bio was the first one to reveal secret ER. He was working on a publication on ER. Unfortunately, he died before he completed it. Fortunately, Joseph Ross, author of Krotona History, has released a publication which reveals cross linkages of these organizations. It is not yet available for sale. It has very valuable unpublished information that would delight any student of history of Theosophical Society.

Any one who wants to join the Theosophical Society should read it so they know what they are getting into.
