In accordance with VI.B of Senatus Consultum de ratione senatus MMDCCLXV, and on behalf of my fellow Tribunes, I intend to provide a running update on the current (first) Senate session for 2774 auc.

 

The intent of these updates is to provide an understanding of the timeline, broad topics under discussion and who is contributing to discussion. It is not intended to be a verbatim transcript or even report significant detail. Should you have opinions on matters being discussed, you are welcome to start your own separate thread within the Forum Romanum as is your citizen right – please avoid posting a reply to this thread however. Please note that you will be unable to influence Senate proceedings. SENATE SESSION: I, 2774 AUC - UPDATE I.

 

Introduction:

This is the first of potentially multiple updates, dependant upon the duration of this session.

This session was officially called to order on a.d. VI Non. Mar. by Presiding Magistrate, Consul Q. Arrius Nauta.

 

The Senate of Nova Roma currently has 16 voting members which gives a minimum quorum of 11 voting members. With 15 senate members present and with 1 present through proxy. The required Quorum is achieved.

 

The 16 voting members are (first those who are currently magistrates then in order of senatorial rank):

Agenda:

The Presiding Magistrate allowed additions to his agenda and as a result a final agenda was formed on a.d. VIII Id. Mar:

 

ITEM 1. -- Religious business and proposals to be heard

ITEM 2. -- Tax rates for Q. Arrio A. Tullia cos. (2774 auc)

ITEM 3. -- Hearing last years' provincial reports

ITEM 4. -- Vacant provincial seats, appointing governor to Dacia and Lacus Magni

ITEM 5. -- Discussing the procedure of reinstating corporation

ITEM 6. -- Strategy for the digital infrastructure and website

ITEM 7. -- Ruleset for conflict of interest, clearer definitions and elimination of the rules of the tyrant inimical to certain friendly organizations

ITEM 8. -- Nova Roma issuing a support statement and offering support to the Roman cultural and reenactment movement, the Gruppo Storico Romano and its mayor as a non-politician, civilian candidate in the next city elections in Rome, capital of the Republic of Italy.

 

Updates:

 

Item I:

-          -The Presiding Magistrate opened with this agenda item first, noting that on sessions when there is a religious holiday, we must discuss religious affairs first according to the senate rules. The session was opened on the 23rd Anniversary the Concordialia, the first day of the Ludi Novi Romani.

 

-          -C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor, rose first with words concerning the definition of work relating to religious restrictions. He also offered additions to the agenda at this point, the final list of which is seen above.

 

-         -Both Consuls provided a reply to the Praetor’s remarks. The presiding Magistrate provided references to clarify certain legislation.

 

-          -No further activity on this item has been observed to date.

 

Item II:

-          -The Presiding Magistrate led with a typical draft Senatus Consultum which appears to echo rates of last year.

 

-          -C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor, and A. Tullia Scholastica, Consul, both offered a minor addition.

 

-          -Since a.d. VI Id. Mar., no further activity on this item has been observed to date.

 

Item III:

-          -The Presiding Magistrate is yet to breach this item this session.

 

Item IV:

-          -The Presiding Magistrate led with a draft Senatus Consultum for the appointment of a new governor for the vacant provinces of Dacia and Lacus Magni.

 

-          -C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor, and A. Tullia Scholastica, Consul, provided their concurrence to the measure.

 

-          -Remaining discussion has been surrounding the previous governor of Dacia, with both Consuls; C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor; M. Pompeius Caninus; and C. Claudius Quadratus providing remarks.

 

-          -Since a.d. XII Kal. Apr., no further activity on this item has been observed to date.

 

Item V:

-          -At the invitation of the Presiding Magistrate, C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor, introduced a motion and path forward for the vote of the Board of Directors of Nova Roma Inc.

 

-          -This was supported by A. Tullia Scholastica, Consul.

 

-          -Since a.d. VI Id. Mar., no further activity on this item has been observed to date.

 

Item VI:

-          -At the invitation of the Presiding Magistrate, C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor, presented several motions to advance Nova Roma’s digital presence.

 

-          -Included in his remarks was designation of the Australian Twitch Channel as an official public forum, unifying control of all digital assets under Curator Rei Informaticae, a taskforce to revise the Nova Roma main webpage, installation of digital software for safeguarding access to digital assets, and a code of conduct for all official fora.

 

-         - A. Tullia Scholastica, Consul, provided a comprehensive response, not all in favour. C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor, then added to his remarks with clarification.

 

-          -The Presiding Magistrate and M. Hortensia Maior Fabiana Faustina also provided their opinions on the matter.

 

-          -Since a.d. XII Kal. Apr., no further activity on this item has been observed to date.

 

Item VII:

-          -The Presiding Magistrate is yet to breach this item this session.

 

Item VIII:

-         - The Presiding Magistrate shared reporting that the Consuls received from Quaestors concerning macro events in Italy.

 

-          -Individual from a local (yet substantial) Roman reenactment group (Gruppo Storico Romano) intend to run for mayor and other city council positions in Rome.

 

-          -It was offered that Nova Roma should publicly offer their support to these candidates through our existing established relationships with the group.

 

-          -M. Aurelius Cotta Iovius; A. Tullia Scholastica, Consul; and M. Hortensia Maior Fabiana Faustina have voiced their support, C. Claudius Quadratus urged caution, and M. Pompeius Caninus suggested Nova Roma support may be in breach of incorporation legislation.

 

-          -C. Artorius Praeconinus, Praetor offered his support with conditions.

 

-          -The Presiding Magistrate echoed his call for a statement of support with A. Tullia Scholastica, Consul in agreement.

 

-          -Since a.d. VI Id. Mar., no further activity on this item has been observed to date.
