Hi Everyone,

My name is Paul. I love painting miniatures and building terrain.
I've been trying to find a local group that have the love and care in
building their armies and gaming tables so that I can get a firsthand
look at how to do it right, so that I can improve myself.
I mostly have Gamesworkshop figures and a bunch of Reaper figures.
I'm also hoping to find someone who does a lot of sculpting/converting
their own figures so I can learn how to use Greenstuff properly.

I guess that's enough for now.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

Welcome aboard.
Sorry for saying your name was Phil. I was going by your e-mail
address.

If you have any pictures of some of your terrain or figures feel free
to put them up here in the photos section.

Right now we seem to be in a flux situation.
We have all been painting 28mm Wild West figures for a "club
activity". Some faster than others. But enthusiasm for that period
seems to have waned a little. Lately I've been re-mounting 15mm
Napoleonic figures and I have some 28mm WWII figures on the painting
table, others have been painting naps, civil war, fantasy and WWII
figures in a variety of scales. And at least one person is interested
in putting together an airplane combat game.

We're having a Civil War game next friday night. Aug 29th if you're
interested. I assume you're in the Phx area ??

It sounds like you're into fantasy games so far. You and Michael will
probably hit it off pretty fast since he's been keen on fantasy
lately too.

I'll let the other guys talk about THEIR interests.

Bob

David Rodgers <david.rodgers@...>

Welcome!

I am most interested personally in WW2 and am putting together forces to
play using "Battlefront: WWII" rules. Discovered these at Historicon and
have been keen to play. I am still fairly new to miniatures. Bob and I
roomed together in our college years and he got me started on the classic
board games. We spent many hours with "Squad Leader" (and supplements) as
well as "La Bataille de la _______" games.

I still do some 1/72 scale modeling for fun but plastics don't seem to hold
up to handling when it comes to the vehicles so I have been doing less of
this lately.

I am also working on 15mm Brit's for Napoleonic battles and I do enjoy ACW
and Colonial periods (although I do not have figures of my own)

I also have played D&D and enjoy a good fantasy romp now and then.

Again,

Welcome

Hey Bob,

Lol, no problem...Phil is also my name(though he comes out when I
have been drinking all night).

Wow,Wild West...I've been hoping to find people who play that(also
looking for a zombie game). It's kinda funny to think that more
people Arizona wouldn't play this more.

I first started up in tabletop gaming with Warhammer 40k but have
recently gotten into fantasy. I have even almost convinced my fiancé
to play high elves(so close to her coming to the dark side).
She may also play Lord of the Rings(I hope).

Thanks for the welcome,
Paul aka Phil(who will probably show himself tonight)

Hi David,

Thanks for the welcome.

I was going to try and get into Flames of war as a way to try to get
my fiance's brother into tabletop gaming. He is former military and
is BIG into military history.

Do you mean scratch building vehicles? Like from platicard? That is
something I also wanted to get into.

I never got to play D&D but was always interested in it.

Thanks again,
Paul

I find that quote very interesting.
Hmmm................

Quoting Phil1551 <phil1551@...>:

I first started up in tabletop gaming with Warhammer 40k but have
recently gotten into fantasy.

My Nappy re-basing project

Bob <brodgers@...>

Well, my re-basing project is almost complete.
I have re-based all my Napoleonic figures except the Austrian Infantry.
I decided to give my fingers a rest from all the prying off old bases
and the bleeding from the exacto knife attacking my fingers. I haven't
flocked the bases yet but I find that goes pretty fast once I start so
I think I'll do everything in one sitting.

I realized that I'm woefully short of French artillery. But that's the
only troop type I have for Bavarians so I guess it will work out for
the short run. They'll just have to be friends.

Bob

This Friday night's game

Bob <brodgers@...>

I'm setting up the "Battle for the Round Tops".

I will be using a different rule set called "Fire & Fury" which you
will probably like better than "Johnny Reb". The rule set includes a
series of scenarios from the Battle of Gettysburg and the Round Top
scenario looks to be pretty good.

Fire & Fury (F&F) is a Brigade level game. Each unit on the table
represents a brigade. Each artillery bae represents a battery.

For comparison, in Johnny Reb each unit represented a Regiment. With
4-5 regiments equalling a brigade and a battery was made up of 2-3
gun bases.

So F&F is a higher level game. There are also fewer extreme swings of
luck (fate ?). The game has an ebb and flow until one side begins to
crumble. Then things deteriorate rapidly.

Turns also play a little faster in F&F.

Players use D10's for everything and the charts are very easy to use.
And there are a lot fewer of them.

Turn sequence:
- Unit activation
- Maneuver
- Musketry & Cannonade
- Charge

Morale is built into the activation process and the casualty charts.

Since this is a new set of rules for most, if not all, of you and the
game is not part of the campaign, we'll leave it open as to who is
Yank and who is Reb.

See you friday night.

Paul, you're welcome to attend. Let me know if you can make it and
I'll send you directions.

All,

I'd like to try another game of Fire & Fury on Monday.
I like the rule set and will probably eventually end up re-basing my
large-based Johnny Reb troops to the smaller F&F bases. The small
bases are still useable for Johnny Reb so no harm done. So I'd like to
run through a few more games if there's any interest.

I'm thinking that we could start around noon and go until we're sick
of it. Maybe all pitch in for pizza delivery around dinner time if
we're still going ?

Who is interested?

Monday's games

Bob <brodgers@...>

Dave, Michael and myself played another game of Fire & Fury yesterday.
I thought the game went very well even though the two of them whipped
me handily, I didn't have any problems with the outcome or rule
mechanics. I find the rules much quicker to learn than Johnny Reb. I
like the brigade level "feel" better too.

Dave and Michael can give their own impressions.

The second game was a western shoot-out that Michael ran. I got my
revenge on both of them by seeing both their gangs wiped out while I
didn't lose ANY men. There's a new sheriff in town and he's carrying a
shotgun! :-)

Michael is putting together another wild west game for next game night
so see you all then.

I like the f&f rules.i think that they r easier to learn and r simpler also. I like both jonny reb and f&f the same .

For the next game night i will be hosting a western shootout game. I am gonna set up two games for the night .one western game with original rules ,that dave and bob played monday , and another other western game with some modified rules . So u guys can play both and we can see wich rules we like.

I am painting the rest of my cowdoys so i will have enough for us all to play, but if u got at lest five cowdoys/indians/outlaws/shooters bring them . Basically , if u got figures to play western shoot out bring them ,if not i got 30 figures . So if every one can write back and tell me if they r bringing any figures that would be great . So i will know how many figures to bring. Thank u and good shooting .
