International Orders for Peter Keller's book were MAILED TODAY

I mailed all of the international orders for Peter Keller's book today with
the exception of the five going in one package to the United Kingdom via
UPS. Those will be mailed as soon as I get the paperwork.

I underestimated the shipping on all of your books by a few dollars. I
suspect this was because I did not yet have the corrugated mailer boxes when
the post office window clerk weighed the book and estimated what your
postage would be. If you would be so kind to send me the additional postage
I would appreciate it.

Listed alphabetically according to country. For privacy this only contains
your initials with your country, your tracking number, the estimated postage
you sent me, the actual postage I paid today, and the difference.

Apologies to Esmond Pitt: Moments before the post office clerk printed my

both. If I had known that last week I would have been able to include
tracking numbers for all the books going to the US in the email I sent to
TekScopes last Saturday.

... and I received my copy last thursday (Jan.12), been reading in it since. Awesome book.
Thanks to Dave Keller for writing it and sharing his knowledge, and to Dennis for taking care of all logistic in sharing it with the groups; both tasks are no mean feat...

And mine arrived yesterday, here in the frozen tundra of Quebec,
Canadaland. So much more better to read the physical copy than a PDF.
Thanks again to Dennis for arranging and doing the legwork.

you can request the courier looks into this? Either way sending over

Hi Damian,
The US Post Office can only provide tracking information for packages that go through their system. Once they leave the protection of the US Post Office it is up to foreign countries to provide tracking information. Some countries are very good about doing this. For instance I was able to see exactly where the books were at all times until they were delivered to our members in Australia. The tracking information provided to me from the US Post Office stops once the book destined for you departed London, England on January 17 07:55.
This was the last time it was being tracked. The exact message was
January 17 07:55 In transit - Departed waypoint LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM
That message tells me it was placed on a plane destined for the next leg of the journey to your country, Austria. I did not know anything about how international mail moves between countries before I mailed these books. I did learn a great deal about this process by watching the books that went to countries who provide our US Post Office with tracking information within those destination countries.

I went to what I believe is the package tracking site in your country (https://www.post.at/) and entered your tracking number. This is what it said:
TRACKING NUMBER UH032260245US The electronic order data was transmitted by the sender. No further information is available at the moment. Elsewhere on the web page it says: Shipment history 8TH JAN 16:03 Electronic order data was transmitted by the sender. Weight 0.983 kg.
That tells me your post office knew it was coming and they knew how much it weighed. Although it departed London your Post Office says it never arrived. I assume there is no tracking data after it left London because Austria does not provide the US Post Office with tracking information. That is only my (ignorant) guess.

As far as I know your book is the only one that has not arrived safely. I am sorry about that but I do not know what I can do from here to help you locate it. Our US Post Office won't help me track it after it leaves the US. I think you should see how much help your post office can give you since they know it is coming and it left London. The most helpful package tracking tool I have found is called PackageRadar. They are able to track packages worldwide. Even they could not see what happened to your book after it left London.
One more thing you should know: The customs form I had to fill out contains the address you gave me. That information is entered by the US Postal Clerk into the USPS computer system and that information is sent along with the tracking number to your country. They received all of that information on January 8. There is a bar coded label attached to the package with the tracking number on it. As it passes through each waypoint along the way that bar code is scanned to determine where it should go next. Just in case that bar code might have been ripped off or damaged I put my own label with my address and your address in an opposite corner of the package and covered it with clear packing tape so it could not be damaged. That was to insure that wherever it ended up no one could say they did not know who to deliver it to.

My experience with an unrelated package from US may be relevant. USPS tracking showed it as leaving the London Heathrow site that dealt with incoming mail at about the end of January. The Royal Mail tracking system just reported that it knew about the package and its weight, but no more. Then on 17th February the package was delivered to me.

I suspect that what happened is that it sat for a couple of weeks in a warehouse either because of Covid related quarantine, or because of a backlog caused by Royal Mail staff shortages (as a result of Covid).

Yeah, I am not raising alarm just yet, just letting you know Dennis. I
believe under normal circumstances it would arrive safely. I have had
packages sent to me via Royal Mail, which were sent later than Jan 8,
and already arrived. And I know a bunch of companies have had warnings
on their sites that they don't currently ship to the UK (or out of the
UK). The reason is that due to Brexit the whole transit system around
the UK had to be overhauled - including all the routes - and that
seems to have made a lot of stuff go lost. So people were holding off
for now. I understand it has stabilized since then. It's unfortunate
that the courier decided to route the book through the UK at that
exact moment. Maybe it'll get found. If not, maybe I can get a copy
next time around.

All the best

and already arrived.

My experience with an unrelated package from US may be relevant. USPS tracking showed it as leaving the London Heathrow site that dealt with incoming mail at about the end of January. The Royal Mail tracking system just reported that it knew about the package and its weight, but no more. Then on 17th February the package was delivered to me.

I suspect that what happened is that it sat for a couple of weeks in a warehouse either because of Covid related quarantine, or because of a backlog caused by Royal Mail staff shortages (as a result of Covid).

Hi Damian,
The US Post Office can only provide tracking information for packages that go through their system. Once they leave the protection of the US Post Office it is up to foreign countries to provide tracking information.

Hi Damian,
I'm very happy about this good news.

Yeah, I am not raising alarm just yet, just letting you know Dennis. I

I'm a newbie who joined this group recently and discovered the overwhelming
interest in Peter Keller's book. I'm curious about what appears to be the
"bible" of CRTs, but I missed the boat on ordering.

So I logged on to my local public library branch and was able to request a
copy from the UC San Diego Library. I suggest that if others would like to
"try before you buy" you might consider heading to your local library to see
if they can find a copy for you.

Welcome Paul,

If it's a "Bible" that you want you might also want to check out
'Encyclopedia of the Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes and Their Uses' by John F
Rider, 1955. At 998 pages it's big enough to be a Bible! Peter's book is
*great* but it's pretty much entirely devoted just to the CRT and it's
development but the oscilloscope book covers oscilloscopes and not just
CRTs. There are some amazing historical details in it.

BTW you're lucky. *All* of the libraries in my area have quite using
the inter-library loan service because of the costs.

The Dash.
