Jean-Paul, Is the 68pf 2Kv cap a ceramic disk cap? Sounds like it is. I can't remember the last I had a leaky disk cap! If there is evidence of dirt, oil, old flux right around the cap, I would clean

Encouraging beginners: What are we accomplishing?
Hi all, I agree with 'Sdturne@...' completely! We are lucky in a democracy that equipment can trickle down to ordinary folks at a goodprice or we can buy when most gear is new if that's what we want

Any Tektronix magnetic shield for a CRT? A strange problem...
Hi all! Heating the shield til you demagnetize it would work, but what about using a AC degausser instead? Turn it on 2 feet away and then bring it close and move it all over the shield, when you've c

What Tektronix means to me
Well said Dennis! I can see many of us feel that same way. I'll be quick: The first time I saw a Tek scope was in high school back in '73, only the teacher was allowed to use it, students used mid 60'

Tektronix 561B - is it a decent collectors item?
If you get to test the 561B, do it. If filter caps are bad inside a 'bent trace' may appear, horse trade a little and repair it.If a buyer was sneaky, twist the horizontal trace position so it goes of

Tektronix 561B - is it a decent collectors item?
As far as a Tek 561B is concerned, you may want to bargain down the price since it is not a 564 / 564B storage scope version! With the covers off by comparison, the 561B looks empty inside! Storage fun

I wonder if there is much interest in vacuum tube oscilloscopes such as the 500 series
Hi John, I still have a 564 storage scope on the bench, it's smaller then a 547, etc and there's lots of plug-ins including sampling units! I guess I cornered the market on mint 3L10 SA units too. But

465B: worth it?
I'll take a 465B over the 465, first it's at least 10 years newer. A nice one usually means it's not been beaten up, plenty of abused ones out there! Sad! I had a scare a while back when all time base

"I wonder how many members here have a 564" Dave V.
Hi all, I started with Tek way back. The 564 had the balance of function and repairability, whereas owning a 7000 scared me at bit at the time. Using a 7000 at work was always the way to go for speed

Lots of good comments on making replacement filter for scopes! I've made a few replacements myself, no big deal. On your vintage scope, check some date codes on parts and see when your scope was actua

Slightly OT - Bourns trimmer pot failure
Thank god it was not the quality enclosed Bourns pots - I use them all the time! Replace the pot and hopefully you'll be back up and running! I don't trust open frame pots over 1M! Cheers! Pete
