The instrument has a damaged CRT, most likely from being dropped, or otherwise impacted. I have seen a few CRT's with similar damage over the years. No solution other than replacement.

I use automotive "Wax and Grease Remover" obtained from an automotive paint supplier, it is used a prep agent just prior to painting. Works great for removing sticker residue, and other greasy stuff.

NO! Not at the CRT! There is a connector at the end of the red HV wire. It simply unplugs. Be sure to carefully discharge the CRT to the chassis. Don't let the exposed contact discharge to any circuit

Well, you must have gotten some bad info. I just last week purchased and received a DD-52 display direct from Tek in Beaverton. I suggest you call the order desk and attempt to buy one..

Is the solder soft? If so, it may be an indium alloy, or two with different melting temperatures. If it is relatively hard, it is a brazing alloy of some kind. I wouldn't worry about it being toxic.

Andy, I think the OS is bios and board dependent. I have been around this loop a few times, and only the correct OS build disk will work. Do you know the Tek part number of the disk for your instrumen

The 576 CRT is unique to that instrument. There is a new one on ebay for only $499....You can buy a complete 576 for less, if lucky, with a good CRT.

You run this with the cover on, right? The CCD's will overheat quickly without the cover, or a good fan blowing on them.
