Yeah, OK, I wondered what you meant by "worse." Usually when checking a cap for ESR you're looking for a low resistance value and a higher resistance value is "worse" and indicates the cap is failing.

Tek 555 service manual.
There appear to be a few on eBay. Most are listed as service manuals even though they say "instruction manual" on the front. However, looking at listing pictures item 271658505408 looks like the same

Oh nice! I looked all over for something like this a while back but couldn't find it. $5.95 with Amazon Prime free shipping solved that problem. Thanks a million, Dennis! John To: TekScopes@yahoogroup

My Type 184 has that same mains plug on the back. I was considering removing it and installing the newer connector like is commonly used on computers and newer Tek scopes. I don't really want to chop

Don't fix if it ain't broke or preventative maintenance
Paul, thanks for this tip! That's the first install of modern snap caps I've seen that I thought looked presentable and reliable. My own 475 will likely need the filter caps replaced at some point but

1957 Tek Employee Manual on eBay
I've seen a lot of manuals on eBay but this is a first! It might be worth the $15 to read it and then scan it in for the rest of us to read. "Tektronix and You" Item: 351627434756
