Found the problem. One end of the center conductor came loose from its connection on the little compensation board PCB. With careful soldering using a custom tip, I was able to reattach that very tiny

Probes
If your old scope is not Tek, you might want to keep your Tek probes. Buy a $10 Ebay probe to go with the old one. Tek probes are worth a lot more and generally better quality. Bob

556 overheating without case panels?
Does it smell like burning dust? If it has been sitting around you might get a burning dust smell ( like my free standing wood stove the first time I heat it up). Bob

Success! Replacing two Ecaps (C582 and C584) with 200V units did the trick. 95V measures 94.8, well within spec. Horizontal trace now displays correctly fully from left to right. Yeah. That's two for

7603 intensity help needed
Success!! I replaced the restorer grid and CRT diodes as well the e-caps while I was in there. The HV board is the new type with two little sub boards. Trace intensity is now fully adjustable for both

465M trace issue
Spot on! When I removed C582, it is bulging and starting to leak from the bottom. I will need to order it as all I have on hand is a 160V 2.2uf not 200V 2.2uf. Thanks for the pointer. Bob
